We are drooling, working drones, who spend their few hours not earning money to exchange for the items we produce in the first place watching celebrity news and cartoons made for adults like Family Guy. Have been to Montreal. It was gorgeous, loved the old town.

I have Acadian ancestry, those guys who were booted out of Nova Scotia during that bit of ethnic cleansing which took place by the English way back in the day

To this day, when I was in Nova Scotia, the place remains highly segregated as far as I could tell, with the Acadian shore speaking french almost exclusively, french everything, flying the Acadian flag, and the 'english', who would pull us aside and tell us how awful the French were

It's as if the French are Canada's version of the Mexicans in the USA, people who were there right from the beginning of european colonization, and bilingual because government demands dual language on everything, but the ordinary people resent it

To me Quebec is one of the greatest, most beautiful "country" I've been to.

I work flights into various Canadian cities from the US, and Canadians are generally very nice and polite. But the Quebecois can be a different story. More often than not, they refuse to speak English unless they want something from you, and are quite rude about it when they do. I do my best to try to find the nice ones in the bunch, but some days I go into honey badger mode(I don't give a fuck) on my Montreal flights just for self preservation and sanity purposes.

I think it must stem from a cultural misunderstanding, but there is a point where rudeness is just downright uncalled for. How hard is it to smile and say hello? Or even bonjour?

It would appear that the rest of Canada feels the same way. At least my friends from Toronto, Vancouver and Halifax agree. Maybe if they are given countryhood they will be a little less abrasive to the rest of the world.

My theory is that they are angry at the world. The rest of Canada doesn't like them, and the French really don't like them, so they take it out on everyone around them that isn't Quebecois.Like the red headed step child of France an Canada, no one really wants to associate with them. Just a theory of course.
