Yeah, how dare this kid use his talents to forge a career and make a living. What does he think this is, the United States of America? Oh wait...it is.

I think its great. What are other kids his age doing?

At 5:16 of the vid he explains that the entire universe in his game is genrated from a single seed number, which means every time a new game is started it is a completely new universe to explore. Pretty cool

Looks pretty good, I hope he gets his kickstarter. There is one issue with procedurally generated content as opposed to it being hand placed in games. That is that generated content is a lot more difficult to incorporate into the underlying logic of the game universe being portrayed. That he is making this a full on sandbox might alleviate this problem though.

I don't game but would have been a kickstarter for a piece of the pie. He just offers more of the game as you increase your donation.

Re: 20 year old Stanford student coded this in 3 Months
The game will be out at the end of 2013 or very early 2014. He has a Kickstarter campaign started with a goal of 50K, which is very modest considering most games cos way more than that to make. Game project KS campaigns ask for much more than that. He is a one man team that is obsessed with coding(his words).

He said he is out to prove you can still make a great game with a small budget.

I like it, he is using a free market solution to go directly to those that want this type of product with a very realistic goal.

Most kids his age are asking how the goverment can take care of them. He is using the free market to make his dream come true by bypassing the publishers and working for peanuts to make the program. He will stand to gain when its complete, but that is whay we all learn a trade and go to work.

Genius. I'd love to get into it. I tried EVE online and never had enough time to fully play it.

THIS IS SHIT.

20 years ago this kid would have been using his intelligence TO CREATE SOMETHING THAT ACTUALLY BENEFITED MANKIND.

And now... he uses his intelligence to make a fucking video game.

Re: 20 year old Stanford student coded this in 3 Months
No problem. I thought it deserved a mention. BTW it looks like the funding goal will be met with ease. The campaign started 4 days ago and this is what it looks like:

1,369
Backers

$38,980
pledged of $50,000 goal

27
days to go

Alot of people, especially those that know the industry, are impressed with what he is trying to accomplish, especially at that age and with limited recources. What you see in the video was done in 3 months like the title says. Go back him if you like the classic American Dream.
