From what I've read, the Mayans never predicted any
'catastrophe' for 12/21/12. Their calendar simply
ends on that date -- for whatever reason it ends on
that date!

Saw a cartoon where a Mayan calendar-maker was presenting
his calendar to his leader, saying:

"I only had enough space to go thru 2012!"

Leader: "Too funny...that's gonna freak some people out
someday!"

Could be something as mundane as that, who knows?!
