Oh and apply for other grants for the extra cash ;). Our renters do it for years... With no intent on actually ever working, of course... People should have consideration, decency, and respect. To know and understand what comes out of your mouth while speaking. "Give me the little book. And he said unto me, Take it, and eat it up; and it shall make thy belly bitter, but it shall be in thy mouth sweet as honey." |

Quoting: BFE Yes, those school loans are very lucrative and supply a student with a better lifestyle than me; and I am one of the professors. Students have long manicured nails, hair weaves, nice cars, nice clothes and shoes, and the best of phones, computers, and tablets. And don't forget the bling. People lack pride in ANYTHING is the problem. Remember having to WORK for something you wanted or needed, nope not anymore. Age of entitlement and one day it will all be stopped. Needs to. Right is right, wrong is wrong... People should have consideration, decency, and respect. To know and understand what comes out of your mouth while speaking. "Give me the little book. Anonymous Coward User ID: 28618054 United States 12/06/2012 10:19 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Aid isn't the problem. The problem is the criteria for getting aid. Students who major in certain marginal degrees should probably be limited to certain types of aid. This is a slippery slope though, that could be politically exploited. Still, such majors as music, art, and theater are pretty marginal. Some would say the same about social sciences, but I'll not go so far. They are quite useful (if not as lucrative as some degrees they at least lead to jobs for those who go on the get their graduate certificates where applicable). Standards should be raised. Currently a C average is enough to get and keep aid. That should be raised to a B. There's no sense in spending money on (and loaning money to) marginal students. There is a certain segment of college students who account for most of the waste and defaulted loans. Only half of freshmen make it through their sophomore year. Only 25% of students earn a degree within 5 years. When people receive loans and then fail to complete school they are almost guaranteed to default (and account for about 90% of defaulted loans). How could they not? They have gained no increase in marketability if they don't graduate.Simply by raising standards most of those problem students can be weeded out before they ever waste our money. For profit private schools are a huge issue. Default rates and employability for these students are shockingly dismal. Contrary to this media promoted hype most college graduates (especially the highly motivated performers) go on to get reasonable jobs and contribute to society. They pay their loans off and pay enough extra in taxes (due to their higher salaries) to offset what was invested in them. There are exceptions of course. A degree is just a degree. It guarantees nothing. It is a tool by which a person gains advantage. If said person does not or is incapable of exploiting that advantage then that is their fault. Maybe they can't present themselves right. Communication and impression management are important. Confidence and motivation are traits that a degree does not supplant. |

I was bitter about it before, but not now. Work some small, nothing happening jobs that lead nowhere. Never married, no children, no arrest record. One driving ticket (speeding) in many many years.
