This aspect of personality is entirely unconscious and includes of the instinctive and primitive behaviors. According to Freud, the id is the source of all psychic energy, making it the primary component of personality. Freud goes on to say The Interaction of the Id, Ego and Superego With so many competing forces, it is easy to see how conflict might arise between the id, ego and superego. Freud used the term ego strength to refer to the ego's ability to function despite these dueling forces. A person with good ego strength is able to effectively manage these pressures, while those with too much or too little ego strength can become too unyielding or too disrupting. According to Freud, the key to a healthy personality is a balance between the id, the ego, and the superego. The above statement is why Jung and Erikson disagrees with Freud about the id. At birth Jung and Erikson believed the id and ego to be present at birth. The above statement of competing forces starts before birth and at birth the ego is already at work along with the id according to Jung and Erikson Ego Development Outcome: Trust vs. Mistrust Basic strength: Drive and Hope Birth - 18 months Erikson also referred to infancy as the Oral Sensory Stage (as anyone might who watches a baby put everything in her mouth) where the major emphasis is on the mother's positive and loving care for the child, with a big emphasis on visual contact and touch. If we pass successfully through this period of life, we will learn to trust that life is basically okay and have basic confidence in the future. If we fail to experience trust and are constantly frustrated because our needs are not met, we may end up with a deep-seated feeling of worthlessness and a mistrust of the world in general. Incidentally, many studies of suicides and suicide attempts point to the importance of the early years in developing the basic belief that the world is trustworthy and that every individual has a right to be here. Not surprisingly, the most significant relationship is with the maternal parent, or whoever is our most significant and constant caregiver. With this in mind I will interject my thoughts, an immature person can not give this care to an infant nor can a working parent fully supply these needs. If a woman understands this at an early age, she will want to avoid a baby until she is self fulfilled confident and ready for this life long commitment in her own life. As science and biology of the human brain evolves we begin to understand the validity of this statement. When a child is born he/she interacts closely with the care taker with mirroring neurons. The care taker literally infects or contages the infant with her emotions. If the care taker is loving, patient, present, attuned, this become a part of the infants internal world. An infant receiving this from his/her mirroring neurons will develop a healthy ego that can handle stress much more efficiently than a child who had an angry care taker. The child with a preset, patient, attuned caregiver develops a private logic as follows: Am: A loved and loveable The world is: a safe place Others are kind Therefore: I thrive, survive and love. Take for example a hostile mother, generally disenfranchised, angry and anxious. This mother will infect the child's brain. The child's brain will begin to miss important developmental milestones as the brain develops from the bottom up. The child will develop a state trait of fear, easily transitioning to terror when presented with stress. These children are similar to children with PTSD, they have resting heart rates over 100 This child develops a private logic as follows. I am: unlovable Others are: hostile The world is: dangerous Therefor I: am aggressive hostile and dangerous. We could go on and on about mirroring neurons and brain development from the caretaker to the infant and the ensuing private logic of the ego. So when you discuss parenting, it is so much more crucial to be a healthy individual before you give birth. |

According to Freud, the id is the only component of personality that is present from birth. Erikson and Young did not agree. They included the ego being present at birth. I agree with Erikson and Young. If you add to your clique John 1:12 But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, even to those who believe in His name. The Name meaning a saving quality, Jesus meaning Yahoshua meaning Salvation Then the child is now though his or her development with the parents guidance will become aware of a higher power in their life leading them into the spiritual world that contains truth that will ultimately lead them to all truth. If the clique that they have entered into is nurturing positive enlightening Consistent, predictable, the enriched experiences will help a child develop their potential. Helping in understanding the God or the highest power that is a parent being the highest power offers all of us a parent child relationship not a God master slave relationship. If thorough life the child does not internalize this, a great deal of hardships and disappointments will arise which increases anxiety and difficulties that become problematic with all that are included in their clique.... |

If this process does not occur we have a pattern set to get our way, to get what we want, at any cost, the id has rule over ego thus causing the super ego to have serious flaws in our ability to develop.... |
