Let's also not forget that government has been purchasing large quantities of ammo lately. If "they" are preparing then we need to prepare as well. Will be buying more guns when I get the funds. Congrats on the S&W 686 4"! It was my first handgun as well 30 years ago. Mine could not be more accurate with 1" groups at 25' when my eyes are fresh.

My local gun range has a ladies' night every Wednesday, free range time for, I am assuming, as long as I want (I usually only stay an hour)

For a long time it was dead there, I would walk in, sign my paper saying I won't shoot myself or anyone else, etc. and walk in the range

This week I went in, the line was halfway around the inside of the store. Guns were being rented, targets bought, it was a madhouse. For the first time ever, I didn't walk in right away into the range. And it was not just ladies, it was men too, renting and/or buying the guns.

Guns are really obsolete, so theres no point in attempting to take them.... if they want them so bad, create deflation depression then BUY em at a 35% mark up...

For me it's the best gun I can think of for the price, especially when I don't have anything else.

And the ammo is fairly cheap for right now, and just about every country uses that round. And it's a battle proven rifle.

Cover one side with duck tape and spray paint that side camo. IT will take longer to heat up and not light you up visually. It will also make it last longer.

Edit: Or, how about reading an army field manual? They are freely available online and talk about how not to be seen. There is one that talks about hiding from IR, visual, Ground radar and acoustic targeting. It has wonderful stuff like using motor oil and dirt to make camo paint and how water can be effectively used to throw stuff off.
