I installed windows 8
The first improvement is speed but the metro apps panel is ok for a touch screen but if you want to use win8 as a desktop you need to download classic shell.

Boot time is a heck of lot faster on win 8 it takes about 15 seconds on win 8, it takes about 30 seconds on win 7 also less memory usage on 8.

I said I hated it but after trying it my opinion has changed.

Windows 7 on my laptop takes about 8-10 seconds too boot.

It's the ram you need at least 6 gigs.

And a speedy hard disk.

I've found after a few days with it on a desktop, you notice everything is more intuitive. Charms bar is great. You can treat the desktop as an app, and split it with metro apps. It is far more functional than Windows 7, touch or no touch.

Meh. I'll stay with Windows 7 for now. If I want an app-based OS with a minimalist aesthetic, I'll use my Android instead. rolleyes

Yep, with the classic shell installed and a few minor tweaks, it's a good OS for $40.00. A definite improvement in speed from 7. I DON'T like the cloud garbage though! Someone joked yesterday about 8 being a web based OS - funny... but too close to reality to be too humorous.

Re: I installed windows 8
You dont need to download any classic shell. Its easy to get to the regular desktop from the damn touch app. Win 8 sucks donkey balls.

I love my Linux Mint Debian Edition!

The .pdf viewer on 8 really stinks. No functionality. You still need to install Adobe.

If you get tempted to uninstall it, take a deep breath and count to 7 (days) and try to get use to it. You WILL end up thinking it's not that bad.

Windows 8 is far better than 7, I don't care what anybody has to say about it.

I'm a programmer, and I've compiled custom kernels for multiple linux distros, I've tested and modified almost every Windows OS available, and I can say without a bit of doubt that Windows 8 is a true contender in the land of OSs.

Windows 8 is fast and highly customizable.

BackTrack 5 is a hackers wet dream.

Dual booting Windows 8 + BackTrack 5 R3 = 1337.

I think that's gonna be the case for most folks. Too bad MS listened to a bunch of hipster-doofuses when they were planning 8. 8 is still good, but it could have been great for only $40.00. As it is, most people are going to stick with 7 because they don't want the trouble of figuring 8 out. So it's not about the money here at all. MS really screwed the pooch on this one...

This comment was meant for those who ALREADY installed 8 and are thinking of uninstalling it.

Yes, XP is great too, but it eventually going to be unusable without support.

Nothing special on this pc, it's just my laptop that I do all my experiments on.

Windows 8 Pro - Pirated/Activated
AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual-Core Processor TK-53 1.7 Ghz
3 GB ram
320 GB HDD - 200GB to Windows, the rest to BackTrack.
Used easyBCD for dual-booting.

Windows 8 boots faster than BackTrack, about 10-12 seconds.
