Re: Hooray for Alienware! (Don't buy these computers)
Alienware M15X has shit the bed on me a half dozen times in a year and a half since I got it. Was working fine last night, woke up today to turn it on, nothing. NO power whatsoever.

This is perfect, considering I have a half-finished filmscore I need to complete and the computer is just dead. I just lost about a years worth of work - I should have backed everything up.

Don't get Alienware, they shit the bed if you sneeze the wrong way. The customer service sucks and tells you something different every time you call. You drop $3000 on one of these computers and the cocksuckers can't even take 10 minutes out of their day to try and troubleshoot for you if you're out of warranty. So much for customer service. A fucking multi-billion dollar company needs MORE MONEY to help me after I've dropped several grand on their touchy products?

Fuck it, I hope 12/21/12 is the fucking end. Let it all burn. Anyone got any clue on what might be the problem? I'd like some assistance in rectifying this issue before I literally hang myself.

To live is to believe in the power of dreams! To dream is to believe in the power of love! To love is to Know the truth!
The Desire to Be fuel the belief that you Are which ignite the Will to Become which bring back forth the desire to be...
Let it be-come you! It means Stop seeking your higher self! It is seeking you! Stand still in your mind to calm the waters of your mind and then it shall find you, so you can ride those waves together!
your true self lies somewhere between your heart and your consciousness. It is called the heart consciousness, which is the creator, which is you!
The heart create the emotions and our mind evoke its purpose, from which we dream the life we live in order to imagine the nature of reality and finally remember love!

The highest Purpose of our mind is the ability to Forget! Go on and Forgive yourself!
There is no love in truth but there is truth in love!

Alienware's gone downhill in the last few years, especially after Dell took them over.

I got an Asus and have had no problems.

If you are working in pro audio the only close to professional answer is Mac

That alienware crap is for dumb assed gamers.

No doubt you bought the unit thinking is would work well for film scoring and you would not need as much outboard but you learned the hard way that the platform itself will not survive the heavy taxing of the processor and video card.

Why anyone would even attempt to score on a laptop as a main controller is beyond me.

I'm a "dumb-assed gamer" and have a number of PC games. Which is why I figured, "Hey, this computer that supposedly can handle the most resource-heavy PC games certainly can handle my 100+ track filmscores!" And usually it DID work pretty well.

Why I went with a LAPTOP, as opposed to a TOWER is because I PLAY LIVE MUSIC TOO. I don't JUST film-score. I perform live, and the best way to do that is with a....GASP....laptop!

I have grown up on PCs, I'm so used to Windows going over to Mac seems unnecessary.

So you just figured you could spend a grand and get half a mil performance and reliability?

Pro audio and video costs money and takes expertise.

Maybe you should look into some consulting with people who deal with it.

prolly about all you can do is remove the battery, press power with it unplugged for 30 secs then reinsert battery. If it powers up your all good, if not its either the psu dead or the mohterboard on the laptop. Knowing the aliens wares *i repair laptops for work* its going to be the motherboard. Dell have had a lot of issues with these.

Never buy a Computer from Tiger Direct or Comp USA, I have bought a Toshiba, Dell and HP from them-that all went bad after 6 months, which really sucks because I live in S America, and have to fly back and try to get them fixed in the 2 weeks that I am there, and that has never happened, so then I have to buy another to bring back here. Computers are 2-3 times more expensive here than the states. I have Never had a problem with compters I bought at Best Buy.

HP are overpriced and overloaded with crap...lots of problems with those...not user friendly for those who are clueless..

ASUS are pretty much 50/50 I would not touch one, but some people swear by them and many businesses have went to them...

I(laugh if you will) am a Toshiba person. Have 4 laptops in the household ranging from 1-4 years old...every Christmas I buy a new one and give the old one to my children..no problems.. for the money, it is a very dependable brand...user friendly..I maintain it properly and remove all the crap I do not want or need...

My bf, bless his heart, is one of those people who can freeze up a new computer in no time....no matter the brand.

sometimes, it is user error...just sayin..

Well, I can't believe nobody mentioned the fact you can easily recover all your work.

Simply pop the HDD from the alienware, into another pc, and boot up a Linux live disk, such as ubuntu. Copy any files you want to an external hdd, or a usb, then transfer onto another pc you can use.

Problem solved.

As for alienware, they're still the best in gaming laptops, just because you received a bad laptop, or possibly used it irresponsibly, doesn't make them a bad company.

I was being irrational; Alienware aren't terrible, even if the computer has shit the bed on me 6 times it still is pretty damn spiffy when it is actually working. Got the thing back up and running, smoked a bowl, have since calmed down and realigned my jimmies.

Computer withdrawal is arguably the most powerful jimmie rustler in modern day society.

Got the thing back up and running.

I WILL say this though - out-of-warranty tech support is FAR MORE HELPFUL than the regular service number. The Out-Of-Warranty people helped me out right away - their first suggestion worked right off the bat. The other people transferred me, told me to buy a new warranty, or that I'd have to send in the computer...

I knew it was either completely fried, or an easy fix. And the fix was extremely simple, thankfully. (Remove battery - remove power source - drain power by holding in power button) Usually I mask my jackassery with a bit o' trolling, but I'm not gonna today. I was being irrational, but I am extremely grateful the thing is back up and running. Gonna get back to what I'm actually good at - making crazy music. I'm worked with computers for 20 years and had all sorts of issues with Alienware. I used to build my own custom pc's, over clock etc..

3 years ago I bought a mac and haven't had a single problem, not even an app crash yet. The time machine software does constant backups so I never have to worry about data loss.

I'm a pro writer now but still do a lot of photo, video editing and music creation. Even my macbook Air can comfortably handle live audio in Logic.

I know there's a lot of Apple haters but having used and rebuilt every possible PC and OS available I've never had a computer as reliable as an Apple. Having said that,I'm no fanboy, my Samsung Galaxy Note absolutely batters my old iPhone 4s in every conceivable way

OP I am very pleased you are working again.

BUT Please get an external hard disk and a large memory stick, open a drop box account.

Back you whole hard disk to the external drive using something like Acronis True Image or Symantec Ghost.

Back up your data to the flash drive and drop box.

It won't even turn on. Its not the power source, that is still lit up. The power button has no effect, it's like overnight the thing just stopped working.

INTERESTING TO NOTE:

I hit "Hibernate," and the computer turned itself back on out of hibernate. I shut it down, and unplugged it from the power source to give it a rest, if you will. So for the first time, the computer wasn't charging overnight.

But that has no relevance to why it won't turn on - the power source being plugged in right now means it should work no matter what.

Re: Hooray for Alienware! (Don't buy these computers)

Something fried while the computer was just sitting there. This has happened to me at least 6 time, as I was saying - this shit always breaks
