California to approve free cellphones for homeless people! Obamaphones are here!

Everyone needs brain cancer, it is equal opportunity. I have designed many gigahertz tuning forks (chips for cell phones) and the steel for the transmission lines and the disk transmitters and will NEVER own a cellphone.

Do they really get free monthly service? What coverage are they given? Which govt agency pays for these?

Remember this peeps. I was a 99er at one time lost a lot. Free cell phone helped me. I am not going to sit here and get in to detail. But it helped.

We should rename them CRACK HEAD phones! probably should include free spam as well

I cant help myself I have to come back. Society is judged by how it helps the hurt.

My kid can't get a book in school but a fucking crack head gets free phone service. We are truly fucked

How they gonna charge them up?

Plug em into a gutter socket?

Most of em will end up at hock shops or traded for food or grog.

I suppose it's a more socially acceptable way to track them instead of chipping them by force.

For now...

At least it isn't for the purpose of trying to buy votes in the months before an election at taxpayers' expense.

This segment of society is mostly single men, many veterans, most were employed in the past, many in poor health--either physically or mentally, with not much other income.

They don't qualify for food stamps or aid to dependent children. Some might get partial disability.

Many lost their homes through foreclosure, were evicted from rentals when their jobs disappeared. Some have drug or alcohol dependency problems with no hope of overcoming them.

With the worsening economy some of the homeless now include families. These people aren't living in government subsidized housing with their utilities paid for them. They are living in tents, shacks, homeless shelters or cardboard boxes under a bridge or in an alley.

Giving them a cheapass phone just might help a few of them find a job or call 911 if they need to.

If anyone has read some of my other posts you might recall that I am in opposition to an overblown government, to put it mildly.

But this something a government should do---It is a relatively small way to help the truly needy to help themselves.
