The Texas Secession petition: new episode

there must be some out there!

As a Texan, this is so embarrassing.

What Texas needs to do is to assert its sovereign rights as a state in every way possible! They already have a start on doing just that; passing laws prohibiting Federal interference in various situations, opting out of Federal programs, etc.

They need to be encouraged to do even more. All Texans should contact their statehouse reps and the governor's office (I know, Gov Goodhair is a RINO but sometimes he listens) and let them know there is popular support behind Texas controlling more of its own destiny.

Texas has its own Air force and a guard that belongs to Texas. Not to mention the percent of population with guns.

In the recent past it had a surplus of tax money with no income tax.

Oil refineries out the ass, imagine what other states would pay for gas and other oil related products to be refined.

It wasn't to many years ago when this came up that it was determined Texas would be the 8th largest country in terms of GNP.

I also think if you cut the Texans loose to take care of the boarder problems there wouldn't be any.

That petition served a great purpose for the WH. It allowed people to blow off steam and express their disatisfaction with the govt. without violence. I would bet they are very pleased with it. Plus they can pretty much ignore it at this point. Better that people vent their frustrations with a mouse click than violence/destruction or actual protest that draws a national media response.

I don't get the presumption that Texas can't defend itself. It is the size of France,the largest country in europe and probably has a better economy.Not to mention the assets you speak of.

1) Our school system is shit and we're a bunch of idiots.
2) Our people are lazy, some of the fattest in the nation, and WANT to be taken care of by the government.
- The public school system in Texas sucks so thoroughly that it breeds oil field workers. This is the only conspiracy theory that I firmly believe in.
3) Our poverty line is higher than the national average:

5) We would have a very small, untrained militia. It's one thing for a group of hillbillies to get drunk, go camping, shoot some deer/illegal Mexicans trying to cross into the border; it's something VERY different to have a bunch of uneducated, fat, lazy, undisciplined rednecks toting guns, trying to take on a trained military/Mexican drug cartel (who are apparently trained and armed by the CIA!).
6) All of our money is based on an oil industry that is primarily headquartered in Washington. We do have oil refineries, but the owners are big, National names that would withdraw their funding in a heartbeat if we seceded.

Maybe. There are probably upwards of several hundred thousand military age combat veterans in Texas.

It only takes a small percentage so quoting statistics regarding the ever present underclass isn't particularly impressive.

And just where do the scary bogeymen chinese fit in? Are they going to invade Texas?

The cartels can be neutralized within a relatively short time, just like the Comanches on the Texas frontier.

Maybe money would be withdrawn or maybe not. Or maybe Texas would go to a non fiat currency and the Texas dollar would trade 1 for 100,000 fed reserve notes.

Kind of amusing that you purport to know with certainty the outcome of secession.

Just a thought, but why would a state need to petition the federal government to secede? I mean, they would just do it if they really wanted to, states are sovereign.

Not to get off in the weeds but Texas population is 23 million? Military age is 18-45. The US has been at war for 12 years.

The upwards of several hundred thousand wasn't a statistic just a guess. Maybe there are only two hundred thousand.

I don't see how there could be fewer.

Fit to fight is a function of 12 weeks or less training.

If Texas couldn't field a formidable military in a fairly short time I would be surprised.

The US army went from about 100 thousand 1n 1940 to around 10-15 million by the end of 1945.

I will leave you with this, you have much more faith in the people of Texas than I do, and I am a born and bred Texan. I love the state, and wouldn't live anywhere else, and I would fight for the security of my State, but I highly doubt the people of Texas would live up to the honor of being its own Nation.
