Anonymous Coward User ID: 119873 United States 12/11/2012 04:04 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | If you want a decent entry level DSLR that you can use different lenses on, have a look at the Canon EOS Rebel T3. Or if you want a Nikon, the D3100. Both will allow you to change lenses. If you just want something take casual pictures with and you're not interested in learning about aperture, shutter speed, ISO, exposure, lighting, etc.... I would just stick with those point and shoot cameras you asked about. If you want to get into an expensive hobby, buy a DSLR. The more you learn, the more you'll spend. So do tons of research, especially on lenses, before you delve into it. Good luck! |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 119873 United States 12/11/2012 04:08 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Without doing research, I couldn't tell you if those cameras are that great or not. More than likely they will give you what you want, but I would read reviews. You may find that you like the pictures it takes when you're outdoors, but when you take pictures inside where there's less light, they come out grainy, or yellow, or whatever.. If I were to get a point and shoot, I would look at the Canon Powershot series. Look for reviews that talk about image quality and low light performance. Some of those little cameras can produce awesome results. |

Just saying. When you are done playing with the T3i in about 6 months to a year depending on your use, upgrade to a Canon mark 2 or 3. You will NOT be disappointed. BIG sensor and you can upgrade lenses. It also shoots movies well. It's an all in one camera. |

ZEROeffect User ID: 21572434 Canada 12/11/2012 04:26 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Nicon is said to be better and faster for picture taking Canon is said to be better at taking video T3i vs 5100 <----youtube it lots of videos to help you decide. I went with the Canon t3i for price/all around better for video. I wanted to buy one machine that could do it all. Also sigma lenses fit right on a canon without an adapter. Make sure your lenses are "IS" stands for image stabilization. Probably will be but just make sure. |

Of 20℅ which sort of puts me to the market end I am at coolpix is ok I guess. Maybe look for something by sony...They have some decent little cams that take video as well. At least with a sony, you may have a little resale value unlike the coolpix :) merry x-mas. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 119873 United States 12/11/2012 04:30 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Go with the T3i It's under $800.00 and comes with 2 lenses. If I could do it over again, I would buy the camera body only and leave those "kit" lenses alone (18-55, 55-250), etc... Spend the money on "better" lenses, or at least better lenses for whatever your purpose is. If you need a walk-around lens, as they call it, (something you can take use anywhere), there are some very quality lenses out there. But they cost some dough. So if you forego the kit lenses and save, say, 350 to 400 bucks, that money can be applied to a decent 600 to 1200 lens, depending on your needs. Just some friendly advice from someone who's been there. |

I luvs me dslr's but quality compact cameras produce great images too. Also they have superior convenience of portability to capture unexpected moments. Just saying coz I still use both. |

My next purchase will be an 18, 26, 50, primes probably around an f1.8 Then I'll get something with a decent zoom and focus. The kit lenses just don't work for smooth focus pulls and zooms...to rigid and jarring. Only good for rack zooms. |
