Anonymous Coward User ID: 29711793 United States 12/12/2012 05:19 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | A new meteor shower may make its first appearance in December 2012. The source of the new shower is Comet Wirtanen. And, its first appearance may coincide with the Geminid meteor shower. The Geminid meteor shower is already on the docket for December 2012, making its peak appearance between December 13 and 15, 2012. See the December 6, 2012 iTWire article "Geminid meteor shower ready to pop: December 13-15, 2012". This new meteor shower has its origins in the Comet Wirtanen. As written in the December 11, 2012 NASA article "A New Meteor Shower in December?" Bill Cooke, of NASA's Meteoroid Environment Office, states, "Dust from this comet [Wirtanen] hitting Earth's atmosphere could produce as many as 30 meteors per hour." This is a very short-period Comet with a solar orbit of just 5.4 years. Earth has not run into its debris stream before, but there is evidence that Earth may be encountering this debris right now and throughout the Geminid peak." Smack User ID: 22355236 Ireland 12/12/2012 05:28 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | The first time I was looking up at the patterns of green and purple move across the sky and I saw a blue/white light moving across the sky at insane speed, but it zig zagged, something I couldn't picture a meteor doing (?), then it burst into an orange flame and was gone. The second time the blue/white orb was far smaller, or further away who knows, and moved in a straight line across the sky, but it didn't burst into flames when it disappeared like the previous one. Could possibly be what was seen in western sweden and finland. Don't want to jump to UFO conclusion but the first one really made my jaw drop. Can't take my eyes off the sky now, unfortunately the sky in Ireland is a lot less entertaining than Norway -_-' |

Both occurred when the aurora borealis was coming to an end after lighting up half of the sky in front me. Too sad the ET/Alien ETH people co-opted a perfectly good descriptive term, but they knew what they were doing with their propaganda and mind-binding and NLP. Go ahead can all these U.F.O.s.. let the Flying Saucer Little Grey Men 'watchers' suffer and adjust. They'll get over it soon enough when there are two or three hundred thousand human made and flown drones buzzing around of makes and models few will be able to identify. Very nice description of the events you give. When we see stuff coming in like the falling Columbia Shuttle we know we are in a world of hurt somewhere. |

Now that would be serious if it was like an Eros asteroid. THere are plenty of places in the Pacific Ocean that are not that deep, 1.2Km (3/4 mile) deep. Closet, apparently, it could get to Earth is about 5.5 Million miles out. Closer than Toutatis, btw. (Unless its orbit or the Earths' changed). |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 28678972 Spain 12/12/2012 05:52 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | "It lit up the sky and flew over us, then we heard an explosion," witness Jessica Berg told the Aftonbladet newspaper. "It was very weird. Uncomfortably weird." Another witness, 24-year-old Sandra, thought the light may have been due to fireworks, but began to wonder when she never heard an accompanying pop. "Then I thought it was a comet because it looked a little like an orb. It was red with a yellow sheen that surrounded and followed it," she told the paper. "It looked like something was falling from the sky like in a film, like Armageddon or something. "I've never seen anything like it." Aviation authorities were quick to rule out initial theories that a plane had crashed somewhere deep in the forests of Värmland County. They, as well as police, suspect the mysterious night light and thunderous blast that prompted a flood of calls from concerned residents may have been caused by a meteorite. "We don't know, but it could have been a part of the meteor shower people have been talking about," duty officer Leif Svensson of the Värmland County police told the TT news agency. The first calls to emergency service SOS came around 10.25pm from Forshaga, a town about 25 kilometres north of Karlstad. More calls came from Stöllet, Ekshärad and Karlstad, and on Facebook, police in Sunne reported a rumbling reminiscent of an earthquake. "And we've also received information that people on the west coast and even in Finland made observations," Svensson told TT. Neither police or other authorities have plans to investigate the strange sound and light phenomena. According to TT, Svensson chuckled when asked if uniformed officers would be sent out to comb a wide area of remote woodland in search what might be a rock from outer space before answering decisively "no".
