kind of a different subject, but if you're looking for an interesting magazine with highly talented writers check out Modern Reformation. Great articles, but would only be appreciated if you're Christian.

Yep Rolling Stone is a piece of shit.
I stopped reading it back in the early 90's after they featured an article on heroin use in the Grunge scene in Seattle.
What the article said was against heroin use but what the pictures showed was the exact opposite with all the Grunger's in cool cars clothing and cars and needles hanging out of their arms.

Fuck Rolling Stone, fuck the mainstream media, fuck gangsta music designed to get young people into trouble with the law, their families, their peers.

The powers that be spend billions and billions(on the internet, TV, newspapers, magazines and radio etc.) trying to make you believe their bullshit and make you deny your own being, talents and abilities.

I couldn’t agree more. Their writing is way to the left even anti-American. I just read a piece of shit article called The A-Team Killings. This article is so full of holes it is irresponsible for them to print the jackass writer who at one point badmouths the people who he needed to protect him for the ride into the piece of shit Afghan town that’s filled with American/Christian/Jewish hating extremist and this idiot is taking their word on every bit of bullshit they are selling him. They're doing stories about porn stars! The latest is Belle Knox, the Duke University student who found a side-job in porn! That makes "news" in Rolling Stone! And not one but two stories about this disturbed young woman, (who has "cutting" scars on her hips).
Rolling Stone would do the Environment, (which they claim to treasure) a huge favor by stopping the huge waste of paper that they print on every month.

I just scanned over Frickes picks of the 100 best and most influential guitarists. Goodness. I suppose to be fair, he did say it was difficult and that his list was closer to 500 and that everyone after Jimi Hendrix was #2. Ok.

Ever hear of Billy Gibbons? Joey Ramone is number 12 and Eddie Van Halen and David Gilmore rank in after 50? Tonny Iommi comes in around 70 or so? Goodness. I did enjoy the props to Kirk Hammet.

Ever hear of Neil Schon? He played in Santana at the age of 18. When you listen to those first Santana albums, all the ripping leads are Schon, not Santana. He then formed this tiny little band called Journey, who just happen to have the most famously played song in rock and roll history. If Neil cant make the top 100 then I would say the list should be called the 100 best fringe guitarists you probably never heard of or could care less about.

Rolling Stone Magazine sucked when I was a kid (70s and 80s) and still sucks today.

PS - If you are going to list Les Paul at all on this list, he should be #1 because he was the first to do it best and make it mainstream. He and Mary Ford were like the Beatles before the Beatles. Its too bad Les Paul is more famous for his tech innovations, because his guitar playing was even better than his gadgets.

I subscribed for probably 15 years. I finally gave up during the era of the Britney Spears pedo covers. I loved it for articles by P. J. 'Rourke, William Greider, on down to Matt Taibbi. Indeed, there was a time when excellent writing and real journalism slipped through once in awhile. Now it's all agenda-pushing, Christian bashing garbage. The sad irony is that RS always posited itself as the revolutionary vanguard. Now they are 100% Establishment.

I quit reading Rolling Stone for the exact reasons everyone has mentioned in this thread. It is not honest journalism but biased reports/reviews that are lugged through the leftist Gerber garden for babies. I can get better written and more accurate information about bands in the review section on Amazon. Why waste time and money on such a trash rag?
