Anonymous Coward User ID: 24183289 United States 12/14/2012 11:28 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | That's great news! Google is a private company.. they can do whatever they want. They're not obligated to deliver porn to your browser. Quoting: DOT 2 DOT Go down to your neighborhood smut shop if you want that stuff.. where you will be carded for proof of age and where children are NOT allowed in, under penalty of law. Why should the internet be any different? Do you understand the ramifications of something like this though? Once you give them a foothold to censor one thing, they'll want to censor something else, and something else, and then something else after that. Who's to say they won't target something YOU like next? And besides that, there was NOTHING wrong with the old system.....if a family member didn't want his or her child to look at certain things you only had to turn on the safesearch and they couldn't see it, simple. This was not needed. Bottom line though is passivity is what ends up leaving us without any rights at all by leaving such huge power unchecked. These things always seem good IN THEORY, but when you look closer there is something more sinister going on. Kids don't just use the internet at home under the eye of their parents. Internet connected computers are everywhere. It's not the Wild West anymore. The onus is on the purveyors of smut to make sure it's only being delivered to adults. That's the way it is for shops. Like I said it's a private corporation. Most companies have filters in place in their organizations. Still, this is just not a good idea, it sets a BAD precedent, cause as I said before once you allow them to censor one thing, you let them censor something else and on and on and on, where do you stop? Do not think this can not be abused, because it can and will be given half the chance. And quite frankly, maybe parents need to start TALKING to their kids about sex, rather than demonizing it. Maybe then the moment a child sees a boob or something likely it all holy hell isn't gonna break loose. Just a thought. You can't shield them from the world forever. This^ And we become like China. The Internet then becomes repository for vanilla corporate plutocracy of the feeble minded that get butt hurt over anything that doesn't suit them. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 25913329 What if Google decides to censor images of Jesus because atheists get offended? Google product forum discussion: [link to productforums.google.com (secure)] Yeah I guess you never have kids that want to just search something on the internet, type in how to make Strawberry Shortcake, and end up with pages of interracial gangbangs through the search. |

You're right they usually don't, and that's exactly what the government counts on. If they can hook those people in.....they got us. What ramifications? It's hilarious to me that so many people bitch about what a private company does. If you don't like it, don't use it. I'm sure you have Facebook too, right? Yeah, sure your privacy is protected online... |

They are not keeping you from searching for it or not displaying it, they jsut defaulted the filter to on, if you want your titties you'll jsut have to click an extra button, gg Screw you, I'm from Texas. |

I don't know, this is hypothetical in nature only.) Google image search is about ten percent of the business they do (totally guess) and takes up a lot more server space, because images do, than the bits of data for their normal search engine functions that show only text. By getting rid of 50% of all search findings, adult content, they save a lot of space on their computers. This means they won't have to update the hardware as fast, which save, let's call it 25 million per year. Yes, these are all fake numbers, but you get the idea. What if this is actually about money? We just to the idea of social control, but what if that isn't the main objective in this case? |

Totally. The adult content is gone and cannot be turned back on. That isn't morality however. It's religion enforcing it's will. in what way can the natural processes of sex or images of the human body ever be immoral? No that come in the heart of the viewer, and when based on a collective imaginary friend image or ancient book filled with contradictions leads to more problems than not. Having a problem with sex, or seeking to control others using sex, is a moral problem far worse and more damaging than porn. In fact it's why we both need and have problems with, porn. |
