Popular Christianity is not designed for the refined intellectual palate. It's simply pop-philosophy for mass consumption. If you want to understand the deeper mystical and philosophical underpinnings of it you have to go back to the ancient mystics. C.S. Lewis also does a good job integrating pagan spiritual wisdom with Christian ideas of Love and Grace. Go read "Mere Christianity" for a taste.

So what would an intelligent decision be? Believing that a book that has been used so clearly for control and war to be true is a good decision? Believing in a god that isnt powerful enough to save all of his creations is a good decision? If you were born in iran as and had no access to the christian faith why and how would god condemn you to an eternal life of hell?

They took different religious theories and cults and manipulated the biblical prophecies to fit into their order so that the book could be used for control of the sheeple like you, lisa.

There are many reasons why we believe in God. My suggestion to you is that you pray to God and ask Him to reveal Himself to you in a personal way if He is real. Than you will know for yourself. You don't have to take anyone's word for anything.

Personally, I see God's handiwork in everything around me. Whether its nature, the stars or my own being. His creation is truly remarkable and beyond the scope of mere randomness.

The scriptures come alive when I read them. In them is God's love story to man kind. It is also a masterful collection of Promises, Warnings and Prophecies for peoples of the world. Many of which have been fulfilled to the tee already.

God designed humankind with a void in our inner being meant to be filled through fellowship with Him. People fill that void with everything imaginable but ultimately can't. Its fleeting. So, they use something else and than something else to fill the same void. Never really reaching true contentment. I can look back in my own life at some of the master passions I've had as an example. Sure, some of these things are fun. Like Hiking and camping every weekend etc. But ultimately, they never produce anything other than temporary happiness. True contentment means the designer filling the void He was made to fill.

Although my walk with God has been far, far, far from perfect, I've seen and experienced way too many things not to see that God is real. Once I came to the realization that God is real than I wanted to know his message for me. The Scriptures provide that message and they are a life time of study and relationship building.
