This event brings back memories of shock, disgust and horror to all UK citizens when in 1996, Thomas Hamilton walked into a junior School in a quiet Scottish town of Dunblane and shot dead 15 young children and their teachers. 18 were killed including the gunman who took his own life. This lead to a ban of handgun ownership in the UK which still remains today. As the media storm went over the story, they began focusing on the weapons and questioned why one man should be allowed to own so many handguns. What we really wanted was for this event to have never happened but after months of "media based debate", the people of the country agreed to a handgun ban. [ link to en.wikipedia.org] |

He had been investigated by the police on more than one occasion suspected of interfering with children.
It was the first time many people heard the term "pedophile" used and learned what it meant. |
