Why doesn't the US cut foreign aid? If we're outta money why are we giving it away?

do you know that up until 2006 we gave foreign aid to saudi arabia? it may have resumed, i don't know.

we really are an insane nation.

because we have fiat currency. We need everyone else to have lots of dollars, and need them to have faith in the dollar. If that means we give some away to keep it the "world standard" and keep costs stable for ourselves, then its completely justified.

As long as we keep giving it away, nobody really asks "what is backing it", because they want to make sure they spend all the dollars they have so they aren't stuck with a bunch of worthless paper.

this is great, i am just reading about foreign aid being a giant domestic pork project. our government gives money to saudi and saudi hires an american company to provide a service which saudi pays for with american money. how clever, and what a unique way to pay off big donors.

Same shit in the UK - there are food banks opening everywhere, kids stealing food at school lunchtimes, and they're giving away millions to places like India whose economy's growing ten times more than the UK and who have their own space programme, to African dictators who've spent it on private jets, and would you believe it for windfarms in the desert!

There shouldn't be foreign aid at all, period, unless it's payed back at a reasonable intrest rate in a timely manner. As 'sorvereign' countries, this implies they are able to finance themselves and operate as a country. If they're unable to do so, they should be 'assimilated' to a neighboring country who can afford to support their lazy asses. Our foreign aid policy is a burden on ourselves and only re-enforces to the world that we're patsies and welcome them to use our goodwill against us....if it is even goodwill rather than a nefarious scheme of some sort.
