Retailers start to pull some rifles from shelves

Dick's Sporting Goods and Wal-Mart suspend some gun sales after last week's shooting in Connecticut.

If you click on the "modern sporting rifles" section of Dick's Sporting Goods' website, you won't see much. The section is blank, a white block of nothing, because Dick's isn't selling those rifles anymore.

The sporting goods retailer has suspended sales of its semi-automatic guns nationwide. It's also taken all of its guns off the shelves at its store near Newtown, Conn., where a 20-year-old gunman opened fire at an elementary school last week, killing 20 children and six educators.

The company said it took those actions out of respect for the victims and their families in this time of national mourning.

Wal-Mart has stopped showing the Bushmaster Patrolman's Carbine M4A3 rifle on its website as well, according to The Nation. There is no word whether Wal-Mart will stop selling the weapon at its stores, however. But Wal-Mart's site still shows that it's selling other guns at its stores, including the Sig Sauer M400.

The Bushmaster is prominently displayed at the local Walmart here in East Texas in the revolving rack. The salesman said they just put in an order for 25 more and have two in stock. He said they sold 17 since the shooting and are out of .223.

I just called my local walmart store and was told that they had not pulled any guns from the shelves.
Dicks corporate was hard to get through, however, I left a message and sent an e-mail (easily found via search). I also called my local store and complained.
I suggest we all do the same. Let them know how you feel about this ban.

Right Walmart has only pulled it off their web store, but I wonder if they'll end up removing it phyiscally from stores next as they decided this on Monday, before Dick's decided to pull them completely.

Just called my local Wal Mart too. The sporting goods manager told me they had pulled certain AR rifles from the web store. They were currently still selling them at the store, but you had to ask for them as they were pulled from the display cases.

Maybe gas stations can take a cue from this. Suspend the sale of gasoline and stop drunk driving.

Well the only way to fight back on this one...is to boycott Wal-mart and Dicks. I will not be spending another dime at either of those stores...ever. Fucking NAZIS!

Dick's Sporting Goods is the worst store I have ever been it. They sell these big bench presses manufactured in China, (with steel from 911?) that are so poorly engineered, they collapse if any heavy weight is used. Luckily, they took the pos back, but they still sell the same pos models-they have no rigid support and they all will break...Bought some iron weights that totaled 58 dollars and the cashier rings me up for 120...for rubber bumpers with steel bushing...I'm like.."Uh, as you can see, they are solid iron."
Certainly would not even consider buying a weapon there...I use the local gun shop, that is staffed by experts.

Haven't shopped at walmart in years.

If I didn't have so much to do, I would stand in front of the store and picket it. I'll do it after the 25th, what should my sign say?
