I am not sure why it is not embedding, but it is an awesome video of a protest in Edmonton today, using traditional music and dance. The line was huge at the end! And with immense cheering.

One of the first nations chiefs,Attawapiskat Chief Theresa Spence, is staging a hunger strike to get PM Stephen Harper to meet with her to discuss the native housing crisis and Bill C 45 which takes away protection of lakes and rivers.

Idle No More began with 4 women, Nina Wilson, Sheelah Mclean, Sylvia McAdam and Jessica Gordon, sharing a vision of bringing together all people to ensure we create ways of protecting Mother Earth, her lands, waters and people.

The women began discussing the possible impacts that some of the legislation would carry if people do not do something. It became very evident that the women MUST do something about the colonial, unilateral and paternalistic legislation being pushed through the Government of Canada’s parliamentary system.

They began with a piece of legislation called Bill C-45 which attacked the land base reserved for Indigenous people.

The women decided that they would call a rally to inform the public that this bill intended to, without consent give the minister of Indian affairs power to surrender the lands reserved. They felt that this would ultimately make room for oil, nuclear and gas industries to tear up the land for profit.

From this rally they also informed the public on other legislation that affected and ignored the treaties made with the crown but also the waters, land and people that it would impact in very harmful way.

Thousands expected at Ottawa protest on Friday
First Nations people and their supporters are uniting under the banner Idle No More against the federal government’s changes to legislation which will affect treaties and traditionally used lands.
At noon on Friday, December 21st, a grassroots led protest is expected to attract thousands of Aboriginal people to a ceremony at Victoria Island, who will then march in solidarity on to Parliament Hill. Idle No More Ottawa will feature voices from many nations and political stripes in a speakers rally that will last until dusk.
The peaceful event page, which organizers simply posted on facebook and twitter, has elicited support for change from around what’s known as Turtle Island and follows several similar protests held across Canada.

While thousands are expected to converge on Ottawa Friday as the Idle No More movement turns into a national day of action one woman in Egypt plans to make it go international.

Patricia Stein, a Lakota from North Dakota, has been living in Cairo, Egypt since 2010 teaching English and art to young children and intends to demonstrate outside of the Canadian embassy....
