Re: Blizzard Warnings Across The Midwest Today
We have about 8 inches now and last night we had snow thunderstorms. In Iowa City the lightning even struck a building and started a fire. According to Wikipedia snow thunderstorms are "once and a lifetime" and very rare. Too bad I'm stuck at my mom's house for my birthday, 12/21! Lamest place to be ever...

Snow thunderstorms sound wicked!

Happy birthday, btw!

10.7 inches of snow here. Winds are gusting around 45 mph. I'm going to head out to dig out here in a bit so I can go run some errands.

Our furnace is running just about non-stop.

Re: Blizzard Warnings Across The Midwest Today
The Weather Channel's first STORM:CON of 9/10 has been given to Madison, Wisconsin where the temperature is currently 32 °F, with a wind chill of 19 °F, and heavy, blowing snow is falling. Accumulations of 4-6 inches are expected throughout the afternoon on top of the 10 inches that has already fallen, and another inch of so is expected tomorrow. Even after Winter Storm Draco passes, high temperatures will not exceed 32 °F for at least the next week, so the remnant snow and ice will continue to cause huge travel problems. [link to i.imwx.com]

Re: Blizzard Warnings Across The Midwest Today
The Midwest's first major snowstorm of the season was sweeping across several states early Thursday, shuttering schools, creating treacherous roadways and threatening to slow down one of the nation's busiest airports ahead of the holiday weekend.

Forecasters warned that heavy snowfall coupled with strong winds would create blizzard conditions for morning commuters from Kansas to Wisconsin.

The heaviest snow is expected across a swath extending from northwest Missouri into Milwaukee, Chicago and Michigan, with predictions of as much as a foot of snow in some areas, according to the National Weather Service. Before the storm, several cities in the Midwest had broken records for the number of consecutive days without measurable snow.

It has been in the 60s-70s here in Oklahoma. Last night we had abnormal wind gusts...steady then really strong..about 22-32 mph. Then its freezing! Someone is playing with our weather patterns. Usually December is cold and calm. We had tornado warnings yesterday evening.

I thought I was seeing lightning. At first I thought it was just the reflection of the Christmas lights but after it happened a few more times I knew it had to be lightning but I have never heard of that before during a snowstorm.

I'm in Michigan. Waiting on the snow. :) I'm a little bit excited. So far only rain though, I'll give it a few hours.
And the LORD spake, saying, "First shalt thou take out the Holy Pin, then shalt thou count to three, no more, no less. Three shall be the number thou shalt count, and the number of the counting shall be three. Four shalt thou not count, neither count thou two, excepting that thou then proceed to three. Five is right out. Once the number three, being the third number, be reached, then lobbest thou thy Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch towards thy foe, who being naughty in My sight, shall snuff it.
