How to tell if a dream was from god or the devil? christians only please

If it was the devil, you would have woken up with scratches all over your back and a smell of sulfur in the room. Duh.

Read the Bible where dreams were used for God to communicate to people. Is there one instance in the Bible, where dreams were sent by the devil?

I can't think of one.

Dreams are symbolic most of the time...so what might seem frightening might not mean something frightening in reality.

This sounds like it can be a dream from God. Maybe there are things that God wants to reveal to you but is unable to because you are not letting go of something. When we let go of things that hold us back....He lets go....or He releases something upon us it is like an open door that was previously closed.

I say this because your family had said no, then you also did, you didnt want to go without your family. Not saying that is a bad thing...not at all. But sometimes we put family in front of our blessing and we miss things important things because of this.

My interpretation: You have been called by God (he does this with the ones he knows will choose Him, the faith to believe in Him is actually a gift from Him). The dream signifies your uncertainty to leave behind those you love dearly because they do not want to go on the path that you want to go on.

You must remember, your parents love your brother and you very much. A parent would choose to be harmed instead if it meant saving their child from harm.

You feel like a betrayer of sorts by wanting to "go" as opposed to staying behind with your brother. Your parents have shown you much love and your dream signifies that you know they will stay back with him because of their great love- hence you feel as if you should too.

Point: Your parents believe in Jesus, they know you will be okay. They aren't sure about your brother, so they choose to stay with him to try and protect him.

This is YOUR perception of the situation, not theirs.

God may be teaching you something?

Most dreams are just that, dreams!

On RARE occasions God does give important information to people through dreams, like when He warned Joseph to take the family to Egypt and when He told the wise men to return home by a different route rather than report back to Herod.

I don't THINK God would give a 'vision' or 'dream' without good reason, but then that's just my opinion. I could be wrong.

IF you receive a message, check to see if it lines up with the word of God and don't be afraid to question the one delivering the message.

Now these Jews were more noble than those in Thessalonica; they received the word with all eagerness, examining the Scriptures daily to see if these things were so. Many of them therefore believed, with not a few Greek women of high standing as well as men.

Notice how the Jews in the scripture above searched the Scriptures to see if the things told them by Paul were true and were called 'noble' because of it. God doesn't expect us to just accept any message as coming from Him. Scripture warns us to be cautious. Deception is out there!

For such men are false apostles, deceitful workmen, disguising themselves as apostles of Christ. And no wonder, for even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light. So it is no surprise if his servants, also, disguise themselves as servants of righteousness. Their end will correspond to their deeds.

I would think if you say the Lord's prayer and ask some basic questions you should get some sort of reply during sleep if not right when you say the prayer. As to what the specific symbols mean you might search using an e-bible for similar words that for the symbols. If not then make that the theme of what you ask after the next time you say the Lord's prayer.

If the sun is just coming up and you have just started exploring the Bible perhaps that is all it is 'saying'. You have started to be 'enlightened' but it is also the start of that process and two sons could be God and Christ and the other symbol that links it all together would be a representation of the Holy Spirit. Something along those lines.
If you want to experiment a little read something from the 4 gospels and ask for some clarity on it (even if it is a parable) and that might help determine if your dreams are related to getting information about God ot just vivid dreams. Another way you might judge the dreams is a dream fades quite quickly, something from God is going to remain as clear as it was when you first awoke.

God doesn't split families but it could be that you alone end up being the one to learn about god and through you it is spread to the ones reluctant to follow you path of getting to know more about God. (if they are reluctant it only means this is not the point when god is going to gather them so you aren't abandoning them to a fate you would not wish on them. If he is gathering you he will also gather them. (that actually works for all of mankind but that is part of the things you get to know if you stay in the light long enough

This first one probably doesn't apply, the 2nd one just says to verify everything so that should include dreams so ....

Well I have asked god to give me a vision or a dream and last night i had a dream were i came down stairs and looked out my from window that pretty big and watched the sun rise. As the sun was rise there were two suns at first and i thought one was wormwood but the thought left when A hexagon of suns and crescent moons and another symbols i cant remember began to rise. Its hard to explain but then a golden halo ring formed behind me in the middle of the room with a beautiful golden light coming down off the ring making a circle all the way to the ground. An object went into the ring of light and started rising up the disappeared at the top. The light icicle kind of looked like a ufo tractor beam the brings people up but this was golden and very pretty.
I was thing about going into it also but i was afraid i would never come back. I called for my brother and asked if he wanted to come and he said no but i couldnt see him only hear him. I believe i asked my dad and he said no too. I asked my mom and she said no. So i didnt and turn my back to it and walked to my mom and hugged her and said i love you to much and then i woke up.
Heres a little back ground on me i used to be an atheist and for the past several months been building a relationship with jesus and god. My brother is an atheist and a homosexual. He kind of help pushed me into atheism but not directly. He doesnt live at home with my parents and i, he's quite a bit older than me too. My parents believe in jesus but accept my brother and just want him to be happy. I feel by turning my back on it i didnt accept the opportunity that god presented me with and in my heart im trusly not seeking god or dont want god in my heart. I feel bad now for not going in to the light circle because i feel if i did i would of got to see heaven Idk im just really confused about the whole thing.
Im going to pray to god about it but how do i know it was a dream sent my the enemy also? Thank for any h-
