I am willing to give you one, a stranger and fellow GLPer to another. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 18535219 That is very nice of you, but I kinda wanted something from my family since i do so much for them throughout the year. And especially from my sons. One owns a fairly successful Apple Ipod repair store and the other is pulling in 6 figures as a sales manager for a car company. I figure since I struggled so hard to get them raised and to make them successes instead of drunks or lazy slackers they would at least appreciate it enough to get me something. If even a cheap card. I am unemployed and struggling bad right now and I spent $50 each on them. I am very hurt over this. I was their only parent. I gave up my 20's and 30's to be a full time dad. I gave the best years of my life in a celibate attempt to create strong, successful, well adjusted, decent men. It is not like I wanted a new car or tv. A stick of gum would have been enough, and I can't chew gum because of my dentures. Wow, you should have just cancelled xmas and the overemphasis on materialism. We stopped celebrating years ago and couldn't be happier. And all friends and relatives know as well and I bet are relieved. People have too much stuff anyway. Give gifts throughout the year when/if you want and don't expect anything in return. I hated the 'who got the best gift' mentality of xmas and am so glad me and my family have opted out. This is a very relaxing time of year for us now. |

Now, times have changed.... the best and only thing I got this year was the happiness of having Mom still with us, by my side. But it's nostalgic to realize how fast and big life's been changing and nothing remains the same anymore... ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Machine shall make it all for us Oh, Machine, pray for us! ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ |
Unit3 User ID: 9834739 United States 12/25/2012 12:42 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I kept forgiving everyone....for years, and finally this year, everyone is starting to come around. It's hard and kids can be the worse. They probably resented something all those years you struggled to raise them and haven't gotten over it. It's too bad they don't have someone in their lives to help them see how wrong they are. Hopefully, they will wake up. I hope so for their sake as well as yours. Anyway, I just wanted to let you know I'm sure sorry and I know how you feel. I would say from now on, just do the best you can for them but find things that mean something to you in your life. If they wake up, great. If not, at least you know you did your best and are going on to live as full a life as you can. Volunteer work is a great way to fulfill yourself. All the best to you and Merry Christmas from a fellow GLP'er!!! Edit: I think I'd sit down and talk to your mom. See if you can get her to tell you what's going on. Something isn't right here and she might level with you. Good luck whatever you do. Last Edited by ERE3 on 12/25/2012 12:46 AM "We are the music makers. And we are the dreamers of dreams." Eggcellent Re-Instate Smith-Mundt! User ID: 30199236 United States 12/25/2012 12:43 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Well, it's sad when the people you love the most don't seem to be remembering you at this time and Season. But you know, someday they will look back and wish they had. Keep in mind that when you are young, you think that you'll have forever to tell others how much they mean to you. It is only as you grow older that you come to appreciate the short and growing shorter window of Time that we actually have. Quoting: Eggcellent I, too, am (physically) alone this Christmas. I have gifts which I have bought and wrapped for friends and their children sitting here waiting for them and they aren't even coming over to get them until "Christmas" is over. A few years ago I would have said "F - Them", but as I get older I realize that giving and getting gifts is NOT what Christmas is all about. Rather it is about the Gifts of LOVE and compassion which were shown to us by our Creator, that he sent his Son who could have come with legions of angels but came instead to be born in a humble stable, and to grow up and go through all of the stuff we experience growing up, and to spend His adult years reminding us about His Father and the simple things we can do to show our appreciation for that magnificent Gift. And yes, He died to allow Mercy to be shown to us along with Justice, and that is very important too, but the message He left us is just as important. I am in no way a "Bibletard". I look at my little tree, which is trimmed with ornaments gathered over the years, and each one reminds me of stories, situations and people no longer here. I light the candles which illuminate the pictures of family and friends who have Gone Home, and realize that I will soon be joining them. Regardless of the rudeness or thoughtlessness of the people I still know, I feel like I am surrounded by love. And that is the greatest gift of all. Merry Christmas to you, friend. Nicely said. Merry Christmas to you Eggcellent. Thank you. I have actually found more friendship here on GLP than I've experienced in "the real World". Although I realize that we most likely will never meet, I greet their Spirits and wish ALL of them the MERRIEST and most joyous of Christmases, and the shiniest and brightest New Year ever. I got no one presents. My family knows I love them, and they know the reason why I didn't buy them anything. I show that I appreciate my parents my doing things like making them a cup of tea, or coffee, cleaning the house, speaking politely, giving them the t.v remote, etc. |

When you grow up you realize that the real joy of present giving at Christmas is the giving and not the receiving. The look of joy on your loved ones face when they see that they have gotten something they like. That's the best part. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 20890048 Exactly! I have to honestly say that my poor daughter is having the worst christmas ever. She is so sick. Goes from bed to toilet to puking. Over and over again. So although yes she has presents waiting for her, the poor thing is too sick. She tried to open one, but just laid down on the floor next to it. I am blessed with family I love but right now my heart is breaking for her. So for anyone feeling bad tonight please remember that you have the gift of health and also the gift of friendship on here. |

Look at Mother's Day compared to Father's Day...moms get all the attention and gifts, dads get the collect call. It's the way of the world these days, according to media/advertisers. Meet the new boss; same as the old boss. Trust in those that seek the truth. Doubt those who find it. |
