BREAKING: A RARE SUPERCOMET RUSHES TO SUN....
"A rare supercomet is rushing towards the Sun from the outer solar system and at its peak it may outshine the Moon in November 2013, astronomers claim.

First spotted in September this year, the comet is known as C/2012 S1 (ISON), New Scientist reported."

If it doesn't break up when it slingshots the sun, it will be amazing! Bright as the full moon!

"The comet 1680 approached so near, that, at its perihelion, it was not more distant from the sun than a sixteenth part of its diameter; and, if it returns, which some predict, in the year 2255, it may then fall into the sun"

"Using the 575 year period, William Whiston, a contemporary and disciple of the great Isaac Newton believed that the comet of 1680 had literally grazed the earth after the fall of Eden, triggering the Noachian Deluge (Noah's Flood) in 2346 BC"

It's probably not the same comet as the 1680, but if that one caused the biblical flood....

It's a longshot, but if Comet ISON breaks up at perihelion we could see cataclysmic doom. Comet Shoemaker-Levy 9 fragmented into 20 pieces which slammed into Jupiter in 1994. One fragment hitting the Pacific Ocean would have global consequences. Not likely, but something to think about. This monster is no Elenin, hehe.

Cool, a large comet that should produce an interesting show, once they pinpoint the trajectory we'll be able to know what parts of the Earth will have the best seats in the house for an astronomical fireworks show.

And no, this does not spell doom people. Pick up a science book once in a while, this stuff is cool!

All right then Huge, if you say it may be doom I will believe it. I follow you some on Nin's solar thread and do not remember you being too doomy of a person in general. Lol. If you say it is possible, I will take note. :)

I'm not sure its the comets with periodic orbits we need to worry about. Its the comets that are "new" to our system that we really need to worry about, or those bodies floating around outside on the periphery of our solar system the size of small planets that could decide to wander into the suns gravitational field.
