Hey Martian Princess... for hfhfyou... hf

The Boy and the Starfish

A man was walking along a deserted beach at sunset. As he walked he could see a young boy in the distance, as he drew nearer he noticed that the boy kept bending down, picking something up and throwing it into the water.
Time and again he kept hurling things into the ocean.

As the man approached even closer, he was able to see that the boy was picking up starfish that had been washed up on the beach and, one at a time he was throwing them back into the water.

The man asked the boy what he was doing, the boy replied,"I am throwing these washed up starfish back into the ocean, or else they will die through lack of oxygen. "But", said the man, "You can't possibly save them all, there are thousands on this beach, and this must be happening on hundreds of beaches along the coast. You can't possibly make a difference."
The boy looked down, frowning for a moment; then bent down to pick up another starfish, smiling as he threw it back into the sea. He replied,

"I made a huge difference to that one!"

I haven't activated it yet but was considering it with the holiday season being now fairly close.

I think this time I won't handle the shipment of the items myself but will commit my time to matching donors with recipients (always kept anonymous if desired) in a private manner and making arrangements. I think I'm going to set up a private website which will serve as a directory for these people to contact each other. The ongoing concern is always how to detect and deter fraud- my gut instinct, while I trust it, is probably not sufficient.

What do y'all think? If we have enough interest I'll carve out the time to coordinate things.

Awesome, thanks for joining!

Ok I think I have enough interest from several people to get this moving again. This time let's start early enough to allow the items to be received in time before the cold weather arrives.

Let's do this:

-If you want to donate clothing/toys/anything a family could use, contact me with a list of items, your location (city and state) and let me know if you can ship or exchange locally.

-If you are in need, please contact me with a brief summary of what your family is in need of the most, your location and city, and children's names, ages and sizes (clothes/shoes). Also if they like certain characters, etc. as sometimes people like to send gifts for birthdays or Christmas, etc.

-If you just want to help we will need with coordinating logistics and keeping a database. I will probably put up a private website for only those involved.

hf to everyone who has contacted me to get this going again. You all rock!
