Excellent questions.

1) I grew up middle class, son of engineer and teacher parents.
2) I paid my own way through college but ended up dropping out and doing stuff completely unrelated to my degree. Later in life in got my Masters and PhD as a sort of hobby.
3) I have been self-employed since I was 16.
4) I didn't get "rich" until the 1990's during the tech boom.
5) Divorce cost me basically everything. Whatever I had left got embezzled by my ex business partner.
6) Went to work for other people for about 7 years, totally wasting my life and treading water financially.
7) Started an endeavor with a dear friend, and it's about to pay off hugely.

I actually gave up dreaming. Too painful with the dreams didn't work out.

I now operate on both dedication and dynamic adaptation to and acceptance of circumstances.

Been there, done that... Being poor is far better than being rich. Having enough to pay bills is nice though...

Strange I grew up rich I'm talking cooks, maids, rolls royce driven by a german and a butler who would never turn his back to us. One day I was in boarding schools and going on lavish trips next day it was ALL gone. I was a teenager but it taught me something. I can tell whatever you call "rich" taught you nothing. I will never live that life again but I'm good with my jeep my dog and my spouse and I now am "rich" in other ways.

Me too, OP- everything moves slower in Latin America, but I am about to go huge again. Nobody is even willing to work as hard and take the risks I do, but it always pays off for me....

Being rich, at this time in my life, is going to mean 2 things:
1) The ability to help people and causes which are in desperate need of assistance.
2) The freedom to focus on #1 and not rot in an office.

I am already ahead of you, we have the farm in middle of S America, off the grid, waterwheel for power, good supply of running water from 2 rivers and 2 streams, fish, 200 fruit trees, farm aninmals, I can be there in just a few hrs....
