Quoting: Anonymous Coward 27627548 How did you go from poor to rich and vice versa? Whats the new plan, or is it just supreme confidence in your ability? Did you grow up poor or rich? Excellent questions. 1) I grew up middle class, son of engineer and teacher parents. 2) I paid my own way through college but ended up dropping out and doing stuff completely unrelated to my degree. Later in life in got my Masters and PhD as a sort of hobby. 3) I have been self-employed since I was 16. 4) I didn't get "rich" until the 1990's during the tech boom. 5) Divorce cost me basically everything. Whatever I had left got embezzled by my ex business partner. 6) Went to work for other people for about 7 years, totally wasting my life and treading water financially. 7) Started an endeavor with a dear friend, and it's about to pay off hugely. |

One day I was in boarding schools and going on lavish trips next day it was ALL gone. I was a teenager but it taught me something. I can tell whatever you call "rich" taught you nothing. I will never live that life again but I'm good with my jeep my dog and my spouse and I now am "rich" in other ways. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 16854713 He's only saying he will get good money again, not what he'll do with it Banned as usual. “It is far easier to be a weakling than to be a Real Man. Were the Earth less harsh or the circumstances of life less austere, man would destroy himself before the shrine of the languid goddess. Only Real Men can with safety destroy the tangled forests and wilderness of Earth and make from them gardens, but will those who inherit the gardens be Real Men? The law decrees that they must be, or the wilderness will reclaim its own.” |

Having enough to pay bills is nice though... Quoting: Anonymous Coward 21943549 Being rich, at this time in my life, is going to mean 2 things: 1) The ability to help people and causes which are in desperate need of assistance. 2) The freedom to focus on #1 and not rot in an office. |

And in my experience, there is no magic bullet. Not even sheer skill and total dedication is any guarantee of success. To me, wealth means two things: 1) Freedom 2) Power I there are many evil individuals and organizations who I will be focusing #2 on like a death ray from God. |

It's always a combination of luck and dedication. Sometimes it's just luck. It's NEVER just dedication. |
