This is now micromanaging an event which by and large will do as outlined, but its heaviest snow down in areas where rain wiped out snow from Godzilla I will sum up the GFS next week with this map and leave it at that. I dont believe a trough will lock off in the rockies with a trough coming into the west coast and believe the threat of a major storm on the east coas next week with severe cold is still on the table, So 5 days from now, we can look back at this and laugh, or look at it and see how close it gets [link to www.weatherbell.com] [link to www.wunderground.com] |

We here in upper RI and southeast Massachusetts are used to the "projected" 4-8 inches of snow. This isn't a "huge nor'easter" for us, this is typical. Give us a storm that drops a foot of snow in 18 hours, then you can call it a super storm or f-bomb or whatever the fuck else you want. As far as the models show right now and from what I see outside, this is a typical late December/early January snow storm for the area I live in. |

As far as the models show right now and from what I see outside, this is a typical late December/early January snow storm for the area I live in. Quoting: thadividedsky They just upped it to 6-12 inches, with the heaviest around Boston. Let me explain how things work here in this region. The heavy snow 9/10ths of the time happens west of the 495 corridor in Mass and in RI it happens in western RI and eastern CT. When they say general accumulation of say 4-6 inches, we're lucky if we get 4 inches. I've lived in Rhody for 11 years and lived in Mass for 20, so I know how our weather works. In my 11 years here, there was only 1 time we got more than they projected and that was 4 years ago when they projected 6-8 inches and when it was all set and done, we actually got 14 inches with snow drifts over 2 feet. But every storm before and since has dropped LESS than they have "projected". SO knowing they say we can expect 6-12 inches with the heavy amounts in higher elevations, in my area we can expect about 6-8 inches, if we're lucky. However 4-6 inches is all we should really expect in southeastern Ma and northern RI. I will be really surprised if we wake up and have more than 6 inches. Heck, where I live, we have had storms where they said to expect 6-8 inches and we got NOTHING. Meanwhile 2 towns over they get dumped on. I hate how "meterologists" (spelling?) generalize regions and ignore the fact that the weather can be very different just a few miles down the street. I do appreciate the work Luis is doing though, hope this helps. |
