the two most common variants of the beginning of gen 1,2 in german are

"die Erde aber war wüst und wirr"
"die Erde aber war wüst und leer"

whereas KJ variant is

"And the earth was without form, and void"

all those three are entirely different in meaning (although the KJ variant would be more in line wit the latter, while the former would be more in line with more direct translations). But ofc if you say KJ is it, and the rest of the world is wrong and/or my opinion, so be it.
