A plain, one-bedroom apartment in Williston, N.D., rents for $2,100 a month. For this price, you could rent a one-bedroom apartment in New York City. Williston is not New York City. There are 30,000 residents and one department store. The nearest city is two hours away. And the more money the majority of people make in an area the more things are going to cost. So all that money people are making there is really not that much since the cost to live there is so expensive now. Many of the locals and retired people have had to move out because they can't afford to live there anymore. At one restaurant there are two menus. The regular one for the locals and the more expensive ones for the people in the oil industry.
