I think you've underestimated them. The UK only has (officially) about 2% muslims, yet almost ever takeaway shop sells halal meat, so does Tescos and main supermarkets; its also in school meals!

a) that 2% is from the last census and not the most recent one and
b) even the officials said that muslims weren't recording themselves as muslim i.e. the total number of muslims is unknown and
c) in areas of the country, large parts of London for instance, even though it's a legal requirement the number filling in the census fell below the 70% mark, and with greater London having about 30% of the UK's population that means a vast number of Londoners (which contains a large number of muslims) simply aren't accounted for.
d) and finally, there's the problem of illeagal immigration, of which the principal religion amongst those immigrants is Islam.

In summary, the 2% figure is old and the new figure is statistical BS.
