I don't have enough knowledge, understanding of astronomical mechanisms to give an opinion on these very weird anomalies which continue to be seen around or near the sun. But it definitely seems to me that there is an awful lot which most of us are not even slightly aware of. |

Hydra User ID: 32060941 Germany 01/13/2013 08:34 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Came across this unusual object whilst looking for something else! Goes back to last September so don't groan if you've seen it before! Quoting: Just the facts! Image 1. [link to stereo-ssc.nascom.nasa.gov] The upper one (closer to the sun) is Venus. The lower one (further away from the sun) is Jupiter. Interestingly enough it has, or seems to have wings?!!! Quoting: Just the facts! I first thought the "wings" were just an optical effect as it approached the sun, like the planet in the frame which I assume is Mercury? Optical distortion, in this case a combination of astigmatism and blooming. It disappears when Jupiter comes closer to the center of the image and reappers when it goes further to the right border of the image. But then I noticed the wings again as it leaves! Notice how they sweep away from the sun just like a comet would? Quoting: Just the facts! Why should an optical distortion only appear at one side of the image? :ase26122019: Annular Solar Eclipse - December 26, 2019 - Kannur, Kerala, India |

Goes back to last September so don't groan if you've seen it before! Quoting: Just the facts! The object comes in from the south on the opposite side of the sun to us, seems to loop around it during the 25th then reappears heading towards our general direction?! But then I noticed the wings again as it leaves! Notice how they sweep away from the sun just like a comet would? I thought it worthy of further investigation! Any ideas? Just one question, could you explain for the benefit of several viewers just how a planet as big and as far away as Jupiter can travel further and faster in a few days than a smaller planet near the viewer can in the same space of time? Sorry, how long does Jupiter take to orbit the sun again?? "When you have eliminated the impossible, whatever remains, however improbable must be the truth" |

Venus is in motion around the sun. Jupiter is in motion around the sun. Orbital periode of Jupiter is about 10.5 years. Synodic periode of Jupiter is about 399 days. The movement of Jupiter in the STEREO images is mainly not caused by the motion of Jupiter but the motion of Earth. . :ase26122019: Annular Solar Eclipse - December 26, 2019 - Kannur, Kerala, India |

Quoting: Just the facts! It's not. Venus is traveling much faster with respect to the stars. Jupiter's motion in the frame over the course of time is mostly dictated by STEREO's motion around the sun (STEREO orbits the sun once per year vs once every 11.86 years for Jupiter). The perspective is not fixed relative to the rest of the solar system, it's moving. |
