Quoting: Delbert_Boogerbelt Seems idiotic to me. Should McDonalds be forced to keep me on as fry chef because I'm afraid of fake meat byproducts? Teacher claims discrimination over her fear of kids MARIEMONT — A longtime French and Spanish high school teacher is suing the Mariemont school district, alleging it discriminated against her because she has a disability – she has a phobia of young children. Maria C. Waltherr-Willard, 61, of Greenhills says the district in which she worked for 35 years discriminated against her when it reassigned her in 2010 from its high school to its junior high and then pressured her to resign. The suit claims the discrimination is based on her age and her disability, a rare phobia called pedophobia, which in this context means an extreme fear or anxiety around young children. Full story at link... [link to news.cincinnati.com] If you were hired as a fry chef, and stipulated you had an actual medical condition from dealing with meat, you would have a case against Mcdonalds, just as this teacher, who as strange as it sounds, cannot deal being around young children has a case as she has a pre-existing medical condition. THere is a massive difference between junior and high school. Young kids are nothing like teenagers. If her condition interferes with her ability to lead a normal life, why shouldnt she have some protections? It is ridiculous but there are a lot of ridiculous things claimed by people all over the United States that have the same, or less legitimacy. |

How does she function in public at all? I'm in the camp that thinks if you have a life debilitating phobia of something you should not entertain a career in that field. She is also claiming age discrimination even tho the person hired to replace her was in their 50's. |

The school districts out here don't seem to know how to deal with kids either. If a teacher feels threatened, they send the kids to alternative school. A lot of the so-called threats are things teachers used to handle easily when I was a kid and even when my kids were in school. Even just simple back-talking will get a kid sent to alternative school. Alternative school here is more like a cross between boot camp and juvie. They even send kindergarten kids there. It's a bad start all the way around. |

Quoting: Delbert_Boogerbelt But the progtards think teachers are underpaid. WHere do you learn her salary? Teachers with 35 years in their field today, are not earning the same salary as newly hired teachers, or even teachers hired ten years ago. THose teachers are most definitely underpaid and over worked. |

THat is of course extreme and doesn't happen(kids being sent to juvie for a simple incidence of talking back to a teacher, it literally happenes everyday, thousands of times a day), but if it did, then the solution would be to be a decent person, and raise a decent kid. Not some self-entitled asshole. |
