I'm not a physicist or an electrical engineer, but I'm guessing that the exposure of the Earth in it's entirety over a 24-hour period to an X-class flare would send us back to the stone age. Instantly. 10 years in an ideal situation of peaceful restoration. In the real world chaos would set in pretty quickly. Do you really think Electrical engineers are going to be doing so well, and living so safely that the masses won't interupt their work?
