I would hope the home owner would get off scott-free, as they barged in without a warrant, essentially tresspassing, and then killed his dog. It would be no different from a normal person barging into a cops home, and killing his dog. The police/law would back-up the officer if he grabbed his gun and shot the civilian. The same should be true if the cops barge in unwarranted, kill you dog, and someone shoots them. If I were on the jury of a homeowner who shot a cop for killing his dog, I'd push jury nullification or justified shooting. Fuck those bastards.. They need to pay fucking attention to their location. This poor man, I think we all who have had a constant pet in their life can relate. It's not really as if he can go out and buy a new dog because that dog wouldn't be the same. It really wouldn't be, sure you can love that new animal too but they wouldn't be the same. You can't just replace something like, it would be like literally trying to replace a family member because that animal was literally family. I would be pretty damn upset too if I was in that same situation. They had no right to just go in guns blazing. They were in the wrong, it was them who went to the wrong location. It was them who went in guns blazing without even announcing that they were police. That was someone's property, hell a law abiding citizen's property. Killing a family pet may not mean much to these people but just think if it wasn't the dog that was shot but the owner or even a child. Something that I've always kept in mind with animals and killing or abusing them: If someone doesn't feel remorse against the thought of hurting or even killing an animal that same person could be capable of doing the same to a human. Family pets are similar to children in the way where they act similar are like little people.
