Anonymous Coward User ID: 32834780 Canada 01/23/2013 02:35 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | This joker pops up in a conversation between me and a buddy on FB about if he, personally, should be allowed to own a rifle. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 18032214 "I'm former military, and I do not think anyone should have the right to own an assault rifle. Its sole purpose is to kill. I am trained to use a rifle and I do not own one, nor do I ever plan to own one. You do not need a rifle for protection. Society protects people. Improve the views and education of the people and you will not need weapons. I'd rather be killed by a gunman, than run the risk, whilst being trained, of killing an innocent bystander. Being on a mission with fellow soldiers is different. I understand the argument for arms in case the gov't turns on its citizens, but in most civilised societies, that's won't happen. Having a weapon wouldn't prevent this anyway. If you want the right to own an assault rifle, you need to move to an isolated island where your right to that ownership doesn't threaten my rights as well. It's been proven many times that carrying a weapon does not increase your chances of survival against an intruder/gunman the vast majority of times. In practise most people do not shoot nearly accurate enough once faced with the situation - this is true for many trained individuals as well. We have a military for the purpose of invasion protection. If a foreign power invaded and defeated the standing military, it is highly unlikely that civilians with weapons would be of much assistance. That's my view. Just wanted to say it." from FB Totally out of the blue, never heard of the guy before. On Facebook? In private convo? Post the name. You caught you a shill. That is the most regurgitated cue-card speech I've ever read. |

C'mon.. the guy is opinionated just like alot of us here... but to state that he is a shill is stretching it, I would think anyways.. just my two pennies worth. Quoting: He Who Walks The Line He's just good at pushing people's buttons. He doesn't try to prove a point, he just posts an agitating statement to see what happens. Now that I'm used to him, I kind of like having him around. As long as you ignore whatever he posts, he's good at flagging the people who are too emotionally caught up in a topic to be objective. |

Couldn't agree more. Even if I don't agree with some of what he says, I do appreciate the comic relief that he brings to the table. He indeed knows how to rile people up, and I guess I can appreciate that. Troll, perhaps but shill? Hardly. Seems alot of people are quick to label others as a shill just because their opinions differ. |

Seems alot of people are quick to label others as a shill just because their opinions differ. And that can be very dangerous. As soon as people start to toss around the word "shill" out of context it only becomes more difficult to identify and avoid the real paid shills. I rip into people using "shill" out of context as badly as I rip the shulls themselves. Both are contributing to a greater problem. |

One thing this society is not, is civilized. No the people with lots of money nor the beggar in the streets, there are some people who are kind and nice but something I wonder how many there are. You know what you said, was almost like saying you are sophisticated, that mean believing a lie and living it. |
