Most Canadians have no basic understanding of American culture

What American Culture .... The NIGNORITY and Libtards destroyed it decades ago .

Canadians believe that the Tea Party truly represents the American culture. And they base their views of Americans on what the Tea Party says.

Some Canadians (read many), have businesses in the US, real estate, family, have lived near a border and spent copious amounts of time in the us, and have travelled extensively throughout the entire country. In some cases, moreso than American citizens.

The proper statement should indicate that the ones who do not have an understaning of US culture, probably have never been there, or only to limited places, have no interests or family there, and may or may not have English as a first language.it also doesn't help if you get all your info in the US from the idiot box.

Mind you, I will tell you that I personally have wathced it decline in the last 20 years, and have completely liquidated all assets I once had in the country. Maybe once the gestapo and police mentality are gone, I will return to set up shop, but until then it is highly unlikely.


For the record, I do not feel morally superior, and I loathe socialism and I am Canadian.

Most people in Montreal don't have English as first language. Also most people there are Euro-communists.

Most the Canadians I've known growing up where pretty down to earth, a bit loopy, but good people. They went to school with us down here.

I think that's very interesting, since when i went to Canada (Toronto) I was amazed at how much it felt like an american city to me. Like Minneapolis. I felt right at home.

I don't think Canadians and Americans are very different at all.

Well, You know, it's funny! About 15 yrs ago, my Bro-in-Law and wife drove to South Carolina from Saskatchewan, Canada! He had an Uncle down there that owned a Golf Course! Not gonna mention the place for obvious reasons. They drove by Motorhome; on the Third night there, they had a supper at his Uncle's home; there were other SC persons there, friends of the Uncle! Honest to God! They talked and talked all night after supper; one Carolinian, asked, "how did you come to S.C.? from Canader?
He said, "well, we went by Dogsled to the 49th Parallel, the Border, by Dog Sled; Then, we traded the dog sled etc; for a motorhome at the border in Montana. Then we drove the motorhome to South Carolina, but, we did have problems! We had 5 flat tires; on the way there. The one guy says,
"Holy Molly! The Hiway ain't so rough, why'd you have 5 flat tires? He says the rental place never had anyone driving to South Carolina from there! So the tires weren't changed; and the SC guy said; " Geez! Would have made it faster, if'n you'd had the dogs and some tires! Hahaha!He did not even know where Saskatchewan was on the map! Americans only study their country, not anyone else's for that matter! They have no clue what Canada is about! These dudes thought everything is a FROZEN TUNDRA up here!
They can't believe we have cities, huge populations, gas, food, and not traveling by dog sled! They really think we live in Igloos's! USA does not teach students about anything but their country! That's why they are so "IGNORANT"! They don't even know what the word "TOUQUE" is ! Also, they don't even know who their President is! I rest my case!!

Wow! On top of their station wagon, they had 10 - 3 gallon Jerry cans for gas! They stopped in Saskatoon, and asked to fill all the Jerry cans cause there was no more gas to buy after that! Hahaha!WTF? Just plain Ignorant!

Hey -- I'm reading some Anne of Green Gables to my kid these days! My children were able to identify Canada on the map before the US! At least, we Americans TRY not to be ignorant of your Canadian culture (which is much more, might I say...then what I see on this discussion except for the wise OP -- I see all of you Canadians being culturally insensitive to America...). You are using some example and stereotyping all Americans with that. That's PREJUDICE against Americans...it's to be expected. Plus, you never understand American humor.

And on top of that you want to trick us into learning those foreign LANGUAGE (ENGLISH SPOKEN HERE, you know) and into learning history? Not bashing Americans or anything! This is actually what did occur! Not to belittle you or anything. Just stating the facts! Everyone did have a great time visiting, etc! But, really, how much education is in your schools learning about Canada?? I know we learn more USA facts before we learn Canada! That's all I'm saying! No offense!

Lol. I've spent about a third of my life in Canuckland, and when I heard Canadians complaining like this I'd ask THEM a few questions about the States, like what is the capitol of Iowa, and where was it..................and hardly a one could answer any of my questions.


When I took up trucking from the center of Ontario to the States the company I worked for had trouble finding young Canadians who would go into the States, they were all terrified of getting murdered! :)


And so far, to tell you the truth, I've never met a Yankee yet who said Canadians lived in Igloos. If you actually find any that do, blame the Hollywood of the 30's.


I had a good buddy who came up there to teach speed reading so that we could get together now and then and wargame.

After spending half a year or so in Canada and listening to all the whinning about Americans, he coined a phrase I've never forgotten:

I do not sit here in a bubble. I understand American culture, the differences are there and I respect their culture but it's not mine.

Sorry if I got too silly in this thread...I found it humorous to think there's this great cultural divide, when mostly I wouldn't be able to tell the difference between many Americans and Canadians, really.

In all honesty, I've liked every Canadian I've met (that I know is Canadian). And, no, we don't learn much about Canada in our schools down here AT ALL...I mean, we don't even learn about Canadian geography, let alone history or government. So, that is Odd, but then again American public schools are all a mechanism to dumb us down, and that's the truth. It's sad. I hope to, one day, be able to take my family on a trip up there to Canada...it is actually a sort of dream of mine. And I DO really think, that L.M.. Montgomery is one of the greatest writers ever, by the way.

Canada, much at all! But, I don't care, the less you guys know the better off we are, right! haha! Loved it when on TV, questions by a Canadian TV show, asked Americans, about Canadian culture or whatever. No one knows what a "TOUQUE" was; who the PrimeMinister was; what we import/export; what the population was; what was the Capital City of Canada? etc. Oh well, I just know that the USofA is a large country of about 350,000,000 plus people, and that we are all really brothers. Hope you all can understand Canadian diggery or humour! All is love in war and peace!
