January 26th was the date Captain James Cook sailed into Botany Bay (Sydney). I am part Aboriginal and neither myself nor any of my family thinks of it as invasion day. There are actually a lot of Australia Day parties going on in many aboriginal areas today. It is a great day for reconciliation.
As for the 'Citizen's Day' hoax it is just that. Some stupid troll put it out on Facebook and sat back to watch all the idiot racists to come out all guns blazing. He is sitting there laughing at your expense, so if you are going to get angry at anybody be angry at him. Nobody ever wanted to change the name in the first place and if you had half a brain you would realise that.
Quoting: Anonymous Coward 16431660 So it's ok with you that today, your Aboriginal culture and traditions is almost completely wiped out? The destruction of both the Aboriginals lives, land, and culture, started when James Cook sailed into Botany Bay on the 26th of January 1788, 225 years ago. As an Aboriginal, you find that something worth celebrating? I'm flabbergasted. I liken you to an Australian that would celebrate the anniversary when the Chinese or the Pakistani invaded and conquered Australia and forced their culture and beliefs on Australians. Quoting: Lamp derp, you're both getting the story confused Landing of Captain Cook at Botany Bay, 1770 [ link to en.wikipedia.org] Australia Day Date of landing of First Fleet in Port Jackson in 1788 Date 26 January 1788 Captain Arthur Phillip [ link to en.wikipedia.org] Quoting: Anonymous Coward 32985309 Thanks for the correction.
