Quoting: Mister Obvious Look at all the different creatures here. Humans can't naturally survive in the ocean and sea creatures can't naturally survive without the ocean. It's like a controlled environment with designated areas. When we think of spaceships we think of metal and rockets and how much food it can hold and how far we can go with the amount of gas we have etc. Think about this thing we are on for a minute. It has such a genious design, most people cant even think of it as a ship. And the people, or whatever they are, designed it so well that it will literally last forever and sustain life indefinetly. And they can visit whenever they want... Pretty amazing if you look at this like a ship of some sort... |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 15740069 United States 02/05/2013 09:37 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Well I think its a Practical Question. Any Ship should have Life Boats. Even the titanic had some. But what would have happened if they really thought it could never sink and they had no life boats. Everybody would have died. In our situation I think it would be very bad if everybody on our ship died. We need lifeboats and a backup plan. Lets go find some other "Spaceships". I know a couple nearby systems. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 33731653 That's dependent on the lifecycle of the sun. Four billion years from now, the increase in the Earth's surface temperature will cause a runaway greenhouse effect. By that point, most if not all the life on the surface will be extinct.[12][13] The most probable fate of the planet is absorption by the Sun in about 7.5 billion years, after the star has entered the red giant phase and expanded to cross the planet's current orbit. Quoting: [link to en.wikipedia.org] Sure, 4 billion years is a long time. What humanity is looking at WAY before then is a barrage of ELE events. Asteroids, supervolcanoes, etc. This type of thing will squelch life on the planet before the life cycle of the sun does. When the top 5 miles of the entire surface is literally blown into space, there's not gonna be a whole lot 'everything we need' going on anymore. Earth would be like Mars, inhospitable to creature life... or maybe they could survive there, problem is they were all wiped the fuck out sooo yeah. I don't really see any aliens swinging by and offering planet sowing seeds. I don't see hugely populated planets all around us. I mean, I'm thinking life is fragile, folks. I say life on the planet has at most 500 years. |

I say life on the planet has at most 500 years. YET, you dont see any aliens swinging by and offering a new situation yet... 4 billion years is a pretty long life span for a ship wouldnt you say? There are other planets or ships in our solar system, if the sun starts heating up, we will have the technology, or someone will have the technology ,to move to a planet farther out. The sun heating up could make earth uninhabitable, but what about the planets farther away that are currntely too cold to live on? In a coulple hundred years, it may be much easier than you think to make another planet liveable and this could all be by design... |
