Re: Wifey Pregnant
Oh, and my advice is to truly enjoy every moment of it, because it goes by so fast even if it feels like it is taking forever. Treasure the ultrasound pictures and heartbeats you'll hear, but don't feel pressured into buying belly casts or 3D/4D videos (some debate as to whether repeat ultrasounds are safe, though I had dozens since I was high-risk and baby is okay) -- lots of people want to take your money. And... don't buy or register for too much stuff. There is SO much you don't need and won't use even though you think you will. If you realize once baby is here that you need something, go buy it then. It'll be good to get out of the house! Save your money for better things. Congrats again!

We got a cosleeper instead of a crib, which was very nice. Try to make sure you have as much help, time off, prepared meals -- fo after the baby's birth. The first few months are tiring, and you will be desperate for sleep...but, it's wonderful, too. Make a cookbook of the most simple, healthy meals because it saves lots of time.

Don't spend too much money on "baby stuff"...because you're going to want money for kid stuff later on.

Baby Signing Time -- is a video (google it) we did with our babies...and it works! Very cool when you can talk to your little baby and they sign to you earlier than they can talk.
My kids had awesome vocabularies very early on, I think in large part due to this program.

Make sure your baby has a lot of books early on and see if you library has programs for babies. We also bought books at thrift shops or library sales.

Learn all those beautiful lullabies now, while you have time.

Don't get too caught up in having a "perfect" birth. I attempted two natural births. The second birth, though, ended up in a C-section and it was still a wonderful experience.

Re: Wifey Pregnant
Here is my advice, do not disobey it.

Whatever happens, no matter how tempted you may be DO NOT look at your wifes vag during birth or right after birth. Stay the fuck away from that end of the bed! In fact try and stay out of the room if possible! I dont know who came up with the idea for the father to be there during child birth but its a fuckin stupid idea.

You've been warned!

Such a blessing. Enjoy every moment.

If there had been digital photography when I was pregnant I would have enjoyed taking a photo every day. There is a great one on youtube of the whole pregnancy and then the baby. Fun and a treasure to share with thechild when they are older.

Indeed regarding the digital photography. We racked up about 10,000 digital shots of my girls by the time they reached ages 5 and 3 :)

My life was forever changed for the better the moment my eyes met my eldests' gaze.

My #1 tip for you, OP: Never dumb down your conversations with your child. Telling him or her something he/she doesn't understand will serve a dual purpose in fostering a desire to think for him/herself as well.

When it comes to comprehending what they are told, children don't like to have to ask what part of what was said means - they would rather figure it out on their own. The more you challenge their mind early on, the more readily they will challenge themselves of their own accord and never stop questioning later on in life.

Kids aren't dumb. It's usually immature adults wanting to dumb them down to their level that is the cause of children acting disproportionately dumb.
