They're closed because this economy is doomed. Shitty labor force, worthless lawyers suing anything that moves, and ...uh...no jobs.

Just google "abandoned ghost towns of ___" and place any state in the west where the underlines are. Plenty of abandoned former mining towns when the gold or silver ran out.

I'm curious about the history of that Neo gothic castle. It looks like it can be rehabbed with a bit of work and money. Outside structure is sound. That castle is really awesome.

They are returning Detroit to farmland and that is right out of Agenda 21.

And now, a quick look at their methods.. in no particular order

UN Agenda 21, move mass amounts of people out, return land to nature, global warming, outsource jobs to other countries, dumb down the students, rewrite history, encourage free sex, drugs, gay sex, gay marriage, no absolutes, no moral rights and wrongs, modern art, foreign aid, welfare, food stamps, entitlements, deficit spending, credit cards, fascism, banker takeover, The Fed, college loans, mass immigration of illegals with no assimilation, bring in muslims, sustainable development, get rid of the sheriffs, snitch on your neighbors, turn in your baaaddd guns, poison the food, chemtrails, cell phones, military industrial complex, DARPA, 1984, terror terror terror, eyes wide shut, diasarm, one world govt, bad is good, good is bad, Obama is a puppet, so was Bush, I Pet Goat video, drones, NDAA, Patriot Act, Homeland Security, FEMA, FEMA camps, witchcraft in the music, witchcraft on TV, Madonna, Lady Gaga, aliens/demons are here to help(not)

Wilder TN,

Davidson, TN

both were very old coel mining towes, there is nothing left in wilder. drove thru there a few years back and you cant even tell where the city used to be or nothing. not 1 building is standing just over grown brush and 1 part of the bucket that carried the coel to the road is all that is left. wilder is like a 30 min. drive from where i live.

davidson last time i went there had 1 building left standing. i need to go back and see it and maybe take some photos. road been falling in a lot and it breaks off all the time because they mined the coal out from under where the road is and it falls down all the time. one guy told me he was gonna buy it and damn it up and make a lake out of it but i recon he never did. i think they should preserve it and keep it because this area is an old area and a ghost town

I lived in Central Texas for a while; there are TWO HUNDRED ghost towns in Texas, officially.

But where'd everybody go?

I wonder just how WRONG ARE the national population figures we get. It appears to me, this nation despite unlimited immigration, is emptying out.

Still, housing costs are very high.

Isnt it strange how quickly a place goes downhill once people leave it?

Its as though the place itself is alive, and when the people leave, the place loses its will to live.

Are there any? I'd love to see them. The places of 'us', the poor and middle class are crumbling as is our way of life. Sure, you might find fat-cat playgrounds shooting toward the sky in gleaming glory, but our places, our songs, and our laughter only seems to crumble a bit more each passing day.

These are the days that the music dies...

.

'Mysteries at the Museum' recently had an interesting segment
on the Salton Sea which was an up and coming resort area until
the fresh water lake turned salty and most of the area abandoned.

btw.. 'Mysteries at the Museum' is an interesting program.

Detroit in RUINS!

Second video is horseshit propaganda, oversimplifying complex issue. Not urbex! Otherwise, this is one of GLP's finest threads in the making. There a lot of beautiful abandoned property vids in this thread. Thanks OP!
 Quoting: thomowen20

If by horseshit; you mean 100% spot on, Then I agree.
It is the true story of intitlements and Union labor.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 30444077

No, I mean the other, other kind of horseshit, the metaphorical type with the metaphorical stink. Oh, and btw, it's "entitlements", which interestingly enough was a legal term whose vernacular sense was employed by certain interests for the purpose of framing an argument.

Now for for the sake of decorum if you feel this subject is worth debating, post the video in a new thread and we can keep up the dialogue. As for this thread, it is perfect JUST the way it is, an urbex thread. So with that in mind...

Shopping malls will soon be thing of the past. No one has any money left for crap, and most of us would rather buy online.

Some day people will look at all those malls and think WTF were people doing?

Entire city of Detroit is abandoned. You could drive around that place for a week and not see the same abandoned building twice.
