The more you try to "wake people up", the more they'll shut you, or your message out. It's a strange human condition - people think they're smarter than they really are. So when new info comes at them, they get defensive. Or they get into a pissing contest because they want to "right."

"You can lead a horse to water..."

The best way to deal with this people, is to flip the conversation. Instead of you trying to convince them, try to get them to convince you of their opinion. When they say stupid stuff, ask them to clarify, or ask questions that will get them to flush out the truth on their own.

Their ego will be spared, they might even go do more research and learn something new. And perhaps, one day, they might even come to you to discuss "waking up" conversations.
