This reminds me of an anime I watched awhile ago called Accel World. They could text people, video chat, play videogames, all which would just display before their eyes. My mom has 2 artificial knees. Many people make use of rapidly advancing technology for artificial limbs...pace makers...transplants, etc, etc...

I think advances in these types of technologies could provide a brand new lease on life for the aged, infirmed and afflicted.

My concern lies with an implanted internet connection of some type. Imagine someone hacking the wireless connection to your brain. Or...some type of rfid implant that contains all our info, which we use for making purchases in a cashless society. One wrong word and you won't even be able to buy bread and water...or, maybe...they just stop your heart.

It will be way too expensive to put into "everyday people" in order to "control" them.

Instead think of "Universal Soldier", where a subpart of the "Warrior Class" is implanted with chips and biogenetic "improvements" so that they can more efficiently kill and maim on command and are also much more impervious to injury.

Those "Universal Soldiers" could then be used to "control" the masses, and would actually be very effective at it due to the terror that people would have at being targeted by them.

As the technology becomes better, more n more of those upgrades will come out (i think google glasses will b the one tat gets the ball rolling to make ppl start thinking "hmm, what if i had a computer in my head?"). Knowing how our current société is obssessed with "wats hot" they will easily b lured in, without thinking of the consequences. Our spiritual growth, for the majority, is already almost at a standstill, i feel like those upgrades will be the last straw 2 keep humanity from evolving 2 its true potential...
