William Wordsworth And yet the same revolutionary beliefs for which our forebears fought are still at issue around the globe—the belief that the rights of man come not from the generosity of the state, but from the hand of God. John F. Kennedy Inaugural Address Lincoln's economic advisor Henry C. Carey explained the universal issue in his 1851 Harmony of Interests: "Two systems are before the world.... One looks to pauperism, ignorance, depopulation, and barbarism; the other to increasing wealth, comfort, intelligence, combination of action, and civilization. One looks towards universal war; the other towards universal peace. One is the English system; the other ... the American system, for ... elevating while equalizing the condition of man throughout the world." Quoting: Anonymous Coward 32407784 Lecerf has filed a legal complaint after his Renault Laguna, which is adapted for disabled drivers, jammed at 200km/h (125mph) and the brakes failed, forcing him to continue careering along a vast stretch of French motorway and into Belgium. Police gave chase until he ran out of petrol and crashed into a ditch. The 36 year old was on a dual carriageway on his way to a hypermarket when the car's speed first jammed at 60mph. Each time he tried to brake, the car accelerated, eventually reaching 125mph and sticking there. Why did he not turn off the ignition? |

Miraculously, they avoided a serious accident before Mr Lecerf’s car ran out of petrol and plunged into a ditch in Alveringem, Belgium. This was also the second time it happened, he has filed suit. So the guy goes 150 miles NP car runs out of gas and then crashes? Last Edited by Chrit on 02/17/2013 01:54 PM I'm only human, it's my biggest flaw. Anonymous Coward User ID: 22205230 Canada 02/17/2013 01:55 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Any on you ever lost power in a car at 125mph? or even 60mph? Steering locks up immediately as power assist steering is gone, brakes also work on purely mechanical pressure for the most part.If you happen to kill the ignition via the key at those speeds, there is a good chance that you will unknowingly engage the steering wheel lock in your panic.Killing the ignition at that speed is a sure way to roll the car and probably die. If this ever happens to you the best way to deal with it is to put the car in neutral. To mitigate this drastically, always drive standard. You don't even need brakes in one of those, except for at low speed to bring the car to a complete stop. That is if the tranny is functioning. Be careful with the emergency brake as well, make sure that if you engage it, hold onto it and the button be ready to release it as it will also certainly put the car in a spin, usually to the passenger side( tail end). If you have a car with a floor emergency brake then you have to do the same thing, hold the release switch ready to disengage it. Scary when it happens, even scarier in a truck / train. |
