Windows 8 has serious usability issues.

I have 7 PC's, & 3 2U servers at home, 6 of those machines run Linux (CentOS, Ubuntu, and OpenSuse) so I don't need the lecture on what OS does what...26 years in IT (server admin/switching and routing) has taught me the pros and cons of most OS's over those two and a half decades

The majority of home users buy PC's with Windows installed and most don't have the time or desire to bother with learning another OS and all of its quirks. Most PC's purchased in the last 5 months come with Win8.

Love it or hate it, the average home user has to learn the ins-and-outs of Win8, either now or sometime in the near future.

On a personal note, I can't stand the Metro interface either, but the Win8 OS itself had some nice features (the app sandboxing has some sweet potential, kind of like a psuedo-Bromium)

Probably the easiest way is to use a program from Sourceforge called Classic Shell. That way you're not going into the registry making changes manually:

ps, been XP x64 since 2006. x64 is the future, fuck x86 and these small chips from ARM and the like....anyone else used XP x64....I tweaked it and had very little issues with hardware and software - thankfully google was fully entrenched by 06

So let me get this straight... You expect people to buy Win 8 only to turn off the "moran" ahem.. METRO interface just to to have an OS that may or may not be a "little quicker on some things" than Win 7...

Same old shit different packaging (like most products these days) and WTF is with the "charms bar" replacing the good old Start menu?

If you want a REAL OS, use any Linux distro.. Even Apple had some sense to base their OS on Unix, hencee the "X" in OS X.

Innovation on MS part has gone down the drain... not unlike the products coming out of the auto industry... they dress up the same old shit with new bells and whistles that only fool sheeple...

So as I stated, you have to use outside programs since your first link said it was a pre-release version that that did not allow the same reg tweak in the consumer side - does that sound right? Cause I don't give an eff..I'd go right in there and go back to start button - but it seems they disabled it knowing that dudes like us would do that immediately (against their evil plan?)?

what we really need is power-friendly x64 chips made for phones and lappy's - which we don't have currently. But mathematically, IS the future. We get that, and a dual core (like the S3) with 2 GB RAM COULD outshine a quad with 1 GB in some certain tests (I'm sure they are indeed testing this, hence why only duals in US vs quad x86's in Europe)...but...if they drop an x64 dual with 2 GB's...who knows.....how is the battery power...seems the US likes battery power versus computing power....I want a quad with 2GB...I just can't afford it (boo!).

To the noobs, the whole thing about x64, is we are not limited to 4 GB RAM (which is XP, Vista and 7, AND 8 if they are x86)...it's like 3.75 GB really....anyways....it's so exponential on the RAM side - it isn't even funny...think of RAM like credit...you can BUY much more if you have the credit - think of credit like RAM....I could have a shit ton going on with the RAM (which is still relatively cheap)...so a dually or a quad.....well...use your imagination for once dammit).....!lol

I bought a computer with the windows 8 because I was having issues with my old one, and I hated it so much, that I went out and bought a computer that still had the Windows 7.

Rumor has it that win9 or win10 will be based on the midori kernel, been in R&D quite a long time. What does that mean? No more overhead from context switches, a faster more reliable system. Well there's some hope for M$soft (if that's true). But they still haven't learned from Ada, so that's why you'll never see windows systems running serious applications or flight control systems.
