We don't want to get rid of welfare or reduce it? I thought we wanted that? We don't think govt pensions are ridiculously high? I thought we did? We don't think there is enormous waste and fraud in medicare? I thought there was? I understand these might not be the right cuts at the right time, but you know all these programs need some trimming. So when do we trim? Really it would be great to trim some of the employees in congress, but that is another subject. We all react to these shock stories, but do we have all the details? Will these cuts help to reappropriate monies to better programs? They might, but we all just sit here reacting without all the info. Maybe we should get behind these cuts and more! Shake it up and get the ball rolling of the crash and fix that is inevitably coming. |

It's almost as if we are waiting for a fatal diagnosis from the Dr. We have all the symptoms and pain and it's all there, but we have to actually wait till it is announced and takes full effect on us. However, it's now or later. |

Well, on our local news this morning, they said Obama is now talking with congress and telling them which cuts will be made to each state. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1547105 You need to do some research on who it effects and means as well. Furlough means days that will be cut from their work week and means $ is also cut from their pay. This involves our military as well. I know enlisted do not make a lot of money. Updated article: [link to www.stripes.com] “I feel like a lot of folks have given in that this is inevitable,” he said. “That is very interesting, unless you are standing here in the gym at Yokota looking at all the people who will be affected.” If and when the furlough is implemented, it will be illegal for furloughed employees to work without pay or even to respond to official emails or phone calls on the days they are off, he said. Furloughed employees must take two full days off per pay period, he said. They can’t take partial days off as part of the furlough. |

More: Specifics on how California will be affected The steep cuts, put into place in 2011 as a way to dissuade the ever-feuding Democrats and Republicans in Washington from refusing to reach a deal, are set to go into effect March 1. A bunch of scare mongering from the White House. They just want to keep spending and spending without regard to the consequences. I feel the sequestration is the ONLY way to get these bozo's in Washington to cut anything. The cut THIS YEAR will be $85 billion. That is less than the increase in spending this year. The cuts are in discresionary and pentagon spending. Welfare, Social security, medicare, medicaid, and interest on the debt are non-discressionary: no cuts there. If your an american and dont have a job its your own damn fault. I admit about 10% of the us population is very lazy and I dont care one bit if they lose some benefits. I have a great job and yet I still take care of myself. I make my own wine and ale, grow vegetables in the season and can the left overs for the fall and winter. Go deer hunting in the season and thats easy meat thats alot more healthy then anything you can find in a store. None of that is complicated at all yet some americans wouldnt have the slightest idea how to even start a garden, load a rifle, or ferment juice. People cant take care of themselves anymore and I say good riddens when they perish inspite of all the self help available today. |

They might be trying to scare us or it could be true. We'll see With Congress unlikely to stop deep automatic spending cuts that will strike hard at the military, the fiscal stalemate is highlighting a significant shift in the Republican Party: Writing in the conservative Weekly Standard, William Kristol, a Republican hawk, excoriated Republicans for being “so desperate for a ‘victory’ over Obama” that they were “willing to sacrifice national defense for minor cuts in domestic spending..." so many rank-and-file Republicans adamant that they would rather see the cuts stand than raise any taxes.. [link to www.nytimes.com] So defense cuts proportionately greater than any other. Bring it on! |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 961432 United States 02/25/2013 07:43 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I have friends in the military in VA. If they furlough 800,000 like they say they're going to, it would probably shut down most of the Norfolk/VA Beach area. Quoting: abeliever It's really scary. What's scary is when the crash that started in 2008 resumes. They have just papered over the stinking debt pile that has accumulated for over 30 years with more debt. Our economy has been gutted, we export debt in trade for plastic crap made in China. Every dollar of debt in this so called stimulus making up the recovery has already been consumed either in government spending or inflating stock prices, which are phantom assets and won't be realized after the next crash. Our government has 2 choices. It can either do the responsible thing and let this depression go full blown and liquidate the non-performing mal-invested debt (which means a lot of people fail and go bankrupt) and allow interest rates to rise to build capital for new investment. But allowing interest rates to rise will force a reduction of government spending by at least 1/2. The sequester is less than $100 billion in cuts a year. Imagine cutting government spending by 1/2! Or it can try and inflate the debt away with exponentially increasing amounts of new debt that will also have carrying costs. But the 2nd way leads to hyperinflation, destruction of the currency and possibly our form of government. I really think they will try the second route as they always think they can get away with things before their term is over and profit in the interim from their crony connections. Something has to be done, and this sequester isn't even close. , They can't inflate it away nor can they liquidate it. It's leveraged 50 to 1 or better and thats what everyones wealth (including yours and mine) and their (financial institutions) valuation (stock price/value) is. All they can do is keep the "leveraged stacked debt derivatives" suspended/supported with reserves. If anywhere in the chain fails, it all fails. QE4ever ! They can liquidate it, its called bankruptcy. People got into their various retirement plans, they invested their money there, they were responsible for doing their due diligence. This is most of the problem we have today is people expecting the government to do everything for them, including protecting them from their own stupid decisions. If they continue to monetize both government debt and the fraudulent derivatives you mentioned, then they will destroy the currency its just a matter of time. The fed will have to begin to print derivative currency in order to meet their deficit between treasury bonds held and incoming payment streams from non-performing commercial paper they purchased from the member banks. This will induced second order inflation, resulting in hyper-inflation when the dollar is dumped as the world's reserve currency. If you have such faith in the gigantic ponzi scheme being run by wall street, the fed and congress then you should buy this most recent dip. |

Quoting: abeliever How much did that cost us? These people will stop at nothing. I'd feel sick to my stomach if I dwelt on what I read or hear about how much they spend on things - anything they spend or do is always outrageous! It's exactly that type of attitude that got this country in the jam we are in now. Just bend over and let the government dry run your buns just as long as you don't have to hear, see, or deal with the reality of the situation. Just pretend it dosent exist and it will go away.....right? They know they can get away with it because no one is going to do a damn thing about it. They are counting on people like you who don't want to hear the severity of what's going on and can be forgotten about with a nice mind-numbing episode of American Idol or the Bachelor. |
