The government is after the guns, because they need to control the population once the financial implosion begins. The just-in-time logistics of the contemporary food distribution network assures that at the first sign of of credit impairment there will be a run on food supplies that remain in the retail space.

When credit impairment begins, generally heralded by a collapse of interbank trust, no supplier will take the chance that they will not be paid for their goods or services unless paid in advance. Business will in turn stop providing any credit (does 30 days net/net sound familiar??) to its customers. This will include transportation providers, and brokers. For example, let's suppose a produce broker in North Carolina demands payment in advance from a Chicago food retailer, because the broker must in turn pay the produce exporter in Mexico up front for a consignment. When this freezes up, so will the food supply, nearly instantly. People will be frantic. Add firearms to the equation and it's easy to understand why there is a massive spin job taking place in the mass media to make it seem sensible to grab the guns.

What's transpiring is patently obvious. The cake is being stolen a crumb at a time, so we won't notice, and react. A systemic collapse is on its way, and probably soon. How soon, I don't know, as the bankster class has demonstrated agility at kicking the can further down the road. However, the music has to stop at some point. Maybe its when somebody really important discovers that the gold they have purchased does not really exist, but has been sold, and sold again, and again and again...

So, each has a decision to make. Is it better to face this future calamity with defensive tools (firearms), or not? This is why people are stocking up on ammunition and defensive weapons. They have reasonably assessed the trajectory of the global financial system, have reasonably concluded that the mass media is a propaganda tool not to be trusted, and are preparing.

Meanwhile, arseholes like the OP here like to make posts that try to equate the astute observations and conclusions of many American citizens with crackpot hollow earth, Nazi UFO conspiracy garbage.

I am not falling for it. And the folks that are out there making preparations are not falling for it. The propaganda, and shill posting energy is going to waste. If it was working, they would have shut up. But they are not, they are working hard, like OP here, to try to stem the tide.

Interbank trust failure = lockup of credit facilities = interbusiness trust failure = lockup of interbusiness credit facilities = major rapid disruption of logistics chain for critical supplies = unleashing of aggressive criminal approaches to acquiring supplies necessary to survive = decision to be either passively stripped of supplies and perish, or be positioned to defend necessary supplies using defensive tools (i.e. weapons).

unfortunately, i have to agree. most people i know who are into major conspiracies, are uneducated. and i'm not speaking about historical information, but simple science and mathematics .
