The first time I heard Mr. Obama speak of his goals during the first campaign, I had to roll my eyes. Anybody with a half a brain knew that it was all political BS, and for two reasons: the first, that no POTUS has ever put self-interests before his duties (George Bush was not "invading for oil"); the second, that no POTUS has ever significantly derailed from the course set by his predecessor(s) with regards to matters of war and foreign affairs -- at least, not unless a considerable expanse of time (say fifty + years) has first passed.

Do I believe that President Obama is a puppet?

No.

But I do believe that he had the proverbial shit scared out of him the day of his inaguration. When the hifhest-ranking intelligence experts and military commanders step into your Oval Office and say "okay, Mr. President, here is a list of significant x being done about this and that, and even though you have the full authority to terminate list of significant x at any time, we would recommend you not for reasons {a, b, c, d, . . .}," well, I think your candidential idealism gets tarnished a bit by the nullifying hand of reality.
