Anonymous Coward User ID: 961432 United States 03/18/2013 09:43 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Just thinking through this, it may be a good idea. Why? Because it will force people to do their own due diligence when they place their money into a bank. If the bank isn't transparent in their liabilities (or anymore their assets) then don't put your money in there since it may get confiscated by the government to bailout out the bank. It sort of shows the need for real risk to dominate the markets, as risk has been masked by phoney banking regulations and implied backstopping by sovereigns leading to historic mal-investments. I bet the Austrian Economists will have some interesting comments in the next few weeks on this development. . |

Period. And there followed another angel, saying, Babylon is fallen, is fallen, that great city, because she made all nations drink of the wine of the wrath of her fornication. Revelation 14:8 |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 33569884 United States 03/18/2013 09:56 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Thinking outside of the box here... But isnt it likely that this was done on purpose? Put the threat out with mass media that 10% of your savings are at risk, and of course a bank run is going to follow... I have never trusted the banking system, but this is too obvious. This I think will spark a chain reaction that will benefit the elite. |

Renegade (Me too) User ID: 31680294 United States 03/18/2013 10:02 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Europe is risking a bank run Quoting: FyreStorm By Wolfgang Münchau Creditor nations will now insist bank rescues must be co-funded by depositors Sir Mervyn King once said it was not rational to start a bank run but rational to participate in one once it has started. The governor of the Bank of England was right, of course. On Saturday morning, the finance ministers of the eurozone may well have started a bank run. With the agreement on a depositor haircut for Cyprus in all but name the eurozone has effectively defaulted on a deposit insurance guarantee for bank deposits. That guarantee was given in 2008 after the collapse of Lehman Brothers. It consisted of a series of nationally co-ordinated guarantees. They wanted to make the political point that all savings are safe. read more at [link to www.ft.com] Where is the part about bank runs? Who is John Galt? |

HOW STUPID ARE WE ALL? |
phoenixe User ID: 25839547 Germany 03/18/2013 10:05 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | knowing that this opinion might be quite unpopular and bring me red karma.. i am not saying it is fair that the old cypriotic granny has cut her savings and not the russian billionaire, but: everyone who participates in the money system game by putting money in the bank to "earn" (bring in) interests, is responsible for what is happening. this game has a mathematical calculateable ending. everyone who participates and want "his money to work for him/her" has to take their share of risk as well. especially, as this game ended so many times before and it is not rocket science to come to the conclusion, this system will fail again.. you don´t like the risk? don´t play it. that easy. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 36427649 I hope that people realize that their govt. will know who and how much are pulling out of their accts. They will make this retroactive and they will be taxed anyway. They can either give it up now or later but the got will get what you "owe." These bank runs are only going to help those who take their money and get out of the country. |
