Music that says something to me, be it thought or mood or idea, the genre does not matter. Though some music captures my attention to hold on repeat more often. Some examples include dead flag blues by godspeed you black emperor, polyshanko poyl (o field my field), whiskey in the jar, gangstas paradice by coolio, and various ballads in the metal scale.
As for movies, the same can be said. But to narrow it down, some favorites from my childhood, the animated hobbit, the land before time and ... hmm tough to narrow down so lets go with my least favorite one, for not obvious reasons, the grizzly.
