The only similarity is that both are hemorrhagic fevers in some degree. Modes of transmission are vastly different, with ebola being the most virulent due to being transmissible by infected bodily fluids (blood, saliva, urine) of many different infected species, including transmission between human beings. The missing virus in question, the Venezuelan hemorrhagic fever, is mainly spread via small particles of infected mouse urine or saliva, and has not been known to be transmitted between human to human. The most virulent form of ebola, Zaire, has 90% mortality while this one has 10-30. Scary, yes, but it seems it won't spread like wildfire... Until it exchanges DNA with the new rabies strain!  Yyyyeah, about that... they're RNA viruses... Now you have me interested in the structure of the genome, though... Ebola is less likely to "swap" genes because it has a non-segmented genome... compared with the flu, which has a highly segmented genome which allows for this activity (it's called "reassortment"... I have no idea about arenaviri...
