If NK detonated a small nuclear missile in the ocean as a warning shot, what would the US really do?

That would be great. North Korea would be down one nuclear device, which probably wouldn't work (not down in the ocean somewhere, as they've never tested a weapon for that purpose), and we would have a way of getting a "signature" on some of their nuclear material, in case it ended up down the road somewhere else.

We would immediately go the the UN to have a full censure by the Security Council.

North Korea would have made a serious, serious mistake, and China would have to side with the international community to do something.

But if you only have, say, five or six nukes, why waste one on Charlie the Tuna, who's already had enough from Fukushima anyway?

It is my scholarly well researched opinion that detonation of any type of nuclear anything is by definition beyond a
"warning shot".

Godzilla > than nuclear
